The Common Room / Stage news - how to access
« on: Saturday 21 May 22 19:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi can anyone tell me how to find out about a relative that was on the stage and was said to play in every theatre in Britain? His name was Walter George Dunlo Allen and he was part of the Kracy Komics & Crazy Gang which included Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel. He was born in London (Notting Hill) in 1878 and spent his life in theatres as a producer/actor/director and also wrote pantomimes. He had a son born 1913 Walter Thomas Dunlo Allen who appeared with Todd Slaughter in the play Sweeney Todd. Walter senior married my aunt Frederika Evans in 1946 after his first wife died. Freda was only 21, he was 68. I dont know how to access anything about the theatres. I know Walter senior played the lead role in Harlequin at the Theatre Royal in Drury Lane London in the 30's and 40's. can anyone point me in the right direction?

Carmarthenshire / Elizabeth Williams b. 1868 Llanelli.
« on: Tuesday 01 February 22 11:38 GMT (UK)  »
Elizabeth Williams was a widow living at 18 Mill Street Carmarthen in 1911. She had her son Samuel B. 1900 living with her. I cannot find her on 1921 census. She may have moved again or remarried though this is unlikely. Has anyone got her on their tree? Her husband John was killed in an accident in 1900. He was 32 years old. Her other grown up children are Evan Llewellyn Evans b. 1892, Esther Jane b. 1894. Evan married Florence Evans 1915 (died 1928) and Esther married David Samuel Rees in 1913. (she died 1974)

The Common Room / Prison and court
« on: Sunday 12 April 20 13:55 BST (UK)  »
I have a relative imprisioned in Wandsworth for a petty crime. He would have been jailed in either 1938 or 1939. He was living in Hackney at Mabley St. How can I find out what court he would have been sentenced at and details and length of his crime? He was aged 22 in 1939. Would it have been put into a newspaper? I can't ask him, he died 15 years ago.

« on: Friday 26 January 18 21:27 GMT (UK)  »
I noticed one of mine lived at 'Steam Mill' and have been trying to find out what or where that is. I can't find any reference as to whether its an old mill or a place and wondered out of curiosity if anyone had heard of it?

Carmarthenshire / Looking for John Williams, Llanelly
« on: Monday 08 January 18 19:49 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for John Williams earlier life and family. He was born 1868 and was married in Llanelly in 1892 to Elizabeth Evans. They lived in Mill Street and he died on 23rd May 1900 age 32 with his address given as 10 Mill St. He is buried I believe in St David's though whether that's a church or parish I don't know. He had 3 children Esther J. (b.1894) David J. (b.1898) and Samuel (b.1900) and a stepson Evan L Evans (b.1892) Not sure how he died. Elizabeth moved to 18 Mill St after his death. She may have had her brother (?) Daniel living with her. (b.1890) Any help appreciated.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Looking for a grave
« on: Saturday 26 August 17 13:40 BST (UK)  »
My grandparents are both buried in one grave at the cemetery in Loughborough (just off the Leicester road)? Apparently their grave is behind a small building like a chapel or crematorium. His name is Evan Llewellyn Evans and hers is Annie Mary Evans. He died in April 1970 and she in April 1974. Does anyone know how I can look up the grave or see a photo of it? I live to far away to visit and am not in good health at the moment.

Carmarthenshire / Census records
« on: Monday 02 January 17 19:21 GMT (UK)  »
I have been looking at a census for 1901 and 1911 of Mill St, Llanelly for my grandfather Evan Llewellyn Evans, (born 1892, mum Elizabeth Evans, born 1868) and notice that none of the house numbers are visable on the census. They actually lived in 2 or 3 houses in Mill St over time (although Evan was born in Powell Place but I can't find that either) so how do you go about finding what number house they were at?
