« on: Thursday 02 September 10 04:38 BST (UK)  »
Can someone please help me find the ancestors of John GOBLE born C 1785 probably Canterbury, Kent. Even a birth record, marriage, amything please.

My GGGrandfather was James Goble. His parents were JOHN GOBLE c: 1785 and Elizabeth unknown (possibly Collins) and he was the youngest of 7 children, all born in Kent.

James was born 1827, and died in South Australia in 1887. (He married Caroline Harris, also born in in Caterbury, Kent in 1852)

James, his wife Caroline and baby Elizabeth sailed to South Australia when Elizabeth was 7 months old, (late 1853) on the ship SS "Epaminondas".
Elizabeth Catherine GOBLE was the eldest of 11 children and the only one born in Kent, the others were all born and died in South Australia.

thanks for taking a look at this for me.

Europe / Rosenhain - in Germany 1400's on
« on: Friday 20 August 10 23:25 BST (UK)  »

Now here's a German dilemma and any help would be wonderful please.

I have found this info about the Rosenhain family but nothing after - or before? I can only assume they are part of my Rosenhain family as the spelling is correct. My Family sailed from Bremen on 9th December, 1849 to Adelaide, South Australia aboard the SS Pauline.

Sailing were Carl Ferdinand Rosenhain, Maria Sophia Rosenhain and Sophia Rosenhain. The family were believed to be from Leipzig. Both Carl and his father Johann were Locksmiths and Jewellers. I have not found any trace of Johann in Australia - yet!
Does anyone have any ideas please?

Mathew ROSENHAIN (b: c 1450 d: 1517) married Barbara NADEL WITZ - Death: 1507 or 1517 , both of Germany.

Together they had 2 sons -
1. Victorinus Rosenhain. (b: c 1478 Death: 1532 Bautzen) He married Anna N.N and had a son.

2. Anton Rosenhain (Born : 1510 Görlitz - Death: 22 MAR 1572 Bautzen) m: Ursula PIPE SCHEID.
son,
1.Jerome Rosenhain Born : 25 FEB 1548. Jerome married - Anna LIEHSE ABT 1580.

Jerome and Anna's son,
Anton Rosenhain, ( Born : 25 MAR 1582 - Death: 17 DEC 1646) m: Martha Fieck ABT 1635. She died 1646. One daughter only found, 1 DEC 1642 - Friederike Dorothea Rosenhain, Bautzen. Died 2 SEP 1716 Zittau.

Friederike Dorothea Rosenhain m: 14 JAN 1658 - Throw Johann Christian V. EHRENPREISSBERG d: 1663 and then 2nd husband, -
Christian Vollhardt m: 5 OCT 1666 ( Born: 1 DEC 1614 Jena and Death: 18 JAN 1690 -Bautzen ). One child --
21 FEB 1670 - Christiane Eusebi Vollhardt .

But where do they fit in? Thanks.

Ireland / Irish ancestors & then to the UK
« on: Thursday 12 August 10 06:42 BST (UK)  »
Like a needle in a hay stack I expect but here goes!

HELP!
I need some help please to determine where my Irish ancestors came from. I'm looking for my GG Grandparents.

I have always thought it was in the region of the South of Ireland but exactly where I don't know.
This is what I think is correct but I'm really not sure -

Daniel Gollihar

1861 census

7 May Back Court? Shoreditch
Daniel GOLLIHAR 42 builders labourer Ireland
Honora 46 Ireland
James 22 Builders labourer Fulham
Daniel 15 gun maker
Bridget 13
Ellen 8
All children born Fulham and apparently went by the name of Goller

Ellen Goller was my GGrandmother, she married: - Michael Callan, Plaisterer and Modeler, in 1877, St Pauls's Church, Hammersmith.

Michael's father was Jeremiah Callan - garden labourer, born Ireland, circa 1807.  Believe he married a Mary ?Unknown.

I may have found him in the 1851 census going by the name of Jerry Coholane. Still with Mary

Jeremiah was still alive at the wedding of his son Michael in 1877 but I know he died in Fulham - somewhere!.

The name changes often...1851 census Jerry Coholane, 1861 census it is Carroll but in 1871 census all the same family at the same address it is now Callihan. At Michael's wedding it was Callan and all of Ellen and Michael's children were Clarn!

Ireland & London, Carroll, Callan or Callahan? c:1860's

Which name do I follow...so many name changes in so few generations.
Can someone help please?

1. I have established that Michael CALLAN m: Ellen Goller at St Paul's Church Hammersmith on April 29th 1877. Marriage Certificate - my Great Grandparents.

2. I know that Michael's father - stated on marriage certificate was Jeremiah CALLAN, Gardener

3. I know Ellen's father, again from the certificate, was Daniel GOLLER, both families are listed as living at Britannia Court, London.

4. I have found the records of all of Michael and Ellen's children going by the surname of CLARN - address Prothero Rd Fulham.

5. I have Jeremiah and his family (wife Mary, from Ireland) listed in the 1861 census going by the name of CARROLL from Ireland - he is still a gardener but the address is now living in William st. I have checked and that's in Chelsea. Michael their son was a Plasterer - was that were the work was??

6. I have the same family, still in William St in the 1871 census but now the name is CALLAHAN from Ireland -dad is still a gardener.

This is all so confusing to this poor antipodean girl! How do I get more info on the Irish background or any thing else?

Thanks   :)
