Durham Completed Look up Requests / Tamar Ross
« on: Tuesday 08 March 16 13:05 GMT (UK)  »
I have found in the burial records for the Holy Trinity Church in Stockton upon Tees, details of the burial of Tamar Ross on 3rd April 1843.  I would be grateful if someone has a copy of the published MIs if they can confirm whether or not there is a gravestone.
Thanks

Suffolk / BIRT in Framsden/Ipswich
« on: Monday 01 December 14 21:22 GMT (UK)  »
My proven information is of a Mary Birt being bp 4th Aug 1816 in Framsden, Suffolk the daughter of Samuel Birt.  Although I have no proof, I suspect Samuel (may have been from Ipswich) married Mary Smith in Framsden on 30th Nov 1815.  Mary had a brother William who was also born in Framsden in 1818.
The entire family moved to Marylebone, Middlesex by the time of the 1841 census and remained there for the rest of their lives.

I have no information of this family(or ancestors) while they were in Suffolk

Trying to find out some info on a Mary Birt who was born in Framsden, Suffolk in 1816.  My understanding is she was the daughter of Samuel Birt, a carpenter,bricklayer/builder.

Whickham Churchyard

Would be grateful if anyone can tell me whether this churchyard has any Rowell families, in particular Joseph Rowell and his wife Barbara nee Thomson who died in the parish between 1841 and 1851.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help me find out who lived at Delaware Villa, Walton Breck Road, Liverpool in 1875.  The surname is Homewood but I cannot make out the first name.

Success would mean I have solved a 30yr old problem

Thanks,
Liz

Durham / Rowell
« on: Thursday 06 January 11 23:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I have a Joseph Rowell born c.1756 who married Catherine Surtees in Ryton 1782 and had 3 children.  In 1794, again in Ryton, he married Barbara Thomson and had 5 children.  The most common names in subsequent generations were Joseph, Samuel and Benjamin while the most common occupation was chainmaker/blacksmith.  I know at least 3 of the children (as adults) moved to Scotland in the 1820's/1830's and remained there for 3 generations.  I have just found an article in a 1835 Newcastle newspaper advertising the sale of a dwelling house and smith's shop at West Cottage, Winlaton, the people to contact were Joseph and Samuel Rowell.  I wonder if they are selling their house before moving north.

I am interested in anyone who recognises the above names;  has any theories why they would leave the north east and move 300 miles north;  knows anything about the Rowell family of West Cottage which would prove/disprove my thoughts.

Any information would be most welcome.

Banffshire / Riddel(l)
« on: Tuesday 28 December 10 17:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,  I have been searching for the parents of a  James Riddel for many, many years without success.  In 1839, James Riddel who was a carrier married Ann Scott in Huntly.  At the time of the 1841 Census, it is stated he was not born in Aberdeenshire.  Ann, his wife was born in Ordiquhill, Banffshire and he had 2 children - John Scott Riddell who eventually married Ann Sophia Craigmyle and Ann Riddell who married Robert Dustan.  I suspect James was dead by 1845 as his wife remarried a George Henderson.

Oh how I wish I could break through this brick wall!

Moderator Comment:
If anybody can help, then please answer on the topic on the Aberdeenshire Board,
to avoid duplication of efforts. Thanks :)
