Shropshire / Mary Day of Wellington
« on: Wednesday 18 January 06 17:01 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone please help me?

I am trying to ascertain the maiden name of a Mary Day the wife of a Richard Day (married c.1815) I think, in the Ketley/Hadley area.   There were at least five children of the marriage being John, Ann, Sarah, Ruth and Richard.   On the death of Richard Day, Mary remarried to a Richard Simmonds on lst January 1834 and they had one Son, Francis.

I have found a both a Mary Yates and a Mary Stokes marrying a Richard Day but have no proof of either.

If anyone could confirm  Mary Day's maiden name I would be most grateful.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / Richard Simmonds - 1851 Shropshire
« on: Wednesday 16 March 05 15:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

Could anyone locate the whereabouts of a Richard Simmonds, his wife Caroline and their four children, Francis;  Richard;  Mary and Elizabeth in the 1851 census please?

In 1841 Richard, Caroline and Francis (Richard's son by his first marriage), were living at Trewern, Montgomeryshire but none of them are shown there in the 1851 census.

However they may have returned to the Wellington area of Shropshire which is where Richard and Caroline came from in the first place.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Shropshire / Look under your beds in Wellington!
« on: Friday 11 March 05 14:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

My gt-gt-grandfather, Richard Simmonds, was found hiding under a bed in the Dun Cow Inn, Duke Street, Wellington in July 1854.   He was hoicked out by a constable and, although he had not actually done anything wrong he was tried and convicted and given three months with hard labour for "intent to commit a felony"!   Poor Richard!!

His second wife remarried as a widow in 1857 and I am trying
to find out what happened to him between July 1854 and June 1857.    I assume he died, unless his wife was telling porkies when she remarried.

Has anyone any answers to this please, as it is driving me mad.

Shropshire / Simmonds family in Shropshire
« on: Friday 11 March 05 14:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am trying to find the death or burial of my gt-gt-grandfather Richard Simmonds.   He was probably born in the Wellington area of Shropshire in 1814-1816.   He first married a Mary Day in 1834 and they had a son, Francis.   He married again as a widower to Caroline Colley in 1839 and they had three children - Elizabeth, Richard and Mary.   He is mentioned in the Shropshire Quarter Sessions in July 1854 and Caroline remarried in June 1857 as a widow.

He obviously died between these two dates but I can find absolutely no trace of him anywhere after 1854.

If anyone else is researching this branch of the Simmonds' family I would  very much like to hear from them.
