Yorkshire (West Riding) / William Cadman
« on: Thursday 02 September 10 09:23 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on my ggggrandfather.
William Henry Cadman is shown on the 1851 census as being born in Falkirk (Folkirk on census) in 1817.  On the 1871 census he is shown as being born in Glasgow in 1812.  I can find no 1861 census record.  He moved from Scotland to Wolverhampton and married Mary who is shown on one census as being born in 1818 and 1815 on the other.  There is a 50% possibility that Mary may have been nee Blegen.
They had five children, one of which was Thomas - my gggrandfather.
Thomas married Ann Roberts(1839-1910) from Whampton in Staffordshire.  Part of the family including Thomas moved to Castleford in Yorkshire.

« on: Monday 16 August 10 17:00 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on Michael Tolan (b c1880) possibly from Foxford who lived at 7 Hough Lane Wombwell in1950.  7 Hough Lane also seems to be known as Cliff House.  Wombwell is a district of Barnsley in England.
He died on 11th April 1950 aged 70 and was buried in the Catholic section of Wombwell cemetery on the 15th April 1950.
The service was carried out by Father Clancy of Wombwell Catholic Church.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Katr Pearson - lost sisters
« on: Friday 13 August 10 15:38 BST (UK)  »
My gran - Kate Pearson born  Feb 1877 in Leeds was daughter of John Pearson born 1852 leeds and Elizoboth Charlotte Pearson - nee Everad born in London.   I have traced a long lost sister to Florence May born 1872 to Australia but I seem to remember another sister.  Florence May did not even know of Kate and her English siblings. John remarried in 1894 and adopted a son plus I believe his second wife's son but he never lived with his wife or young son William by his first marriage.  Can anyone help with Kate's lost sister born 1871 or later.  She did not live with gran or with her Pearson grandparents Robert and Catherine in Batley.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Michael Tolan
« on: Friday 13 August 10 13:11 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find information on Michael Tolan of Wombwell possibly born in Ireland.
He lived at 7 Hough Lane which also seems to be known as Cliff House.
Michael Tolan (b c1880) died aged 70 on 11th April 1950 and was buried on 15th April 1950 in the Catholic section of Wombwell Cemetry.
He was buried in the same plot that my grandfather had bought for his brothers funeral in 1947(not Tolans).  My grandfather, his brother and Michael Tolan were all shown as living at 7 Hough Lane or Cliff House during the 1940s.
I do not know who Michael Tolan was and why he is in the same grave.
The service was carried out by Father Clancy of Wombwell Catholic Church
Barnsley Bereavement Services have been extremely helpful but they have no information such as next of kin.  They could not find any other Tolans buried in the area.  Their records go back to about 1868.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Horace Carnell - adopted son born 1900
« on: Monday 09 August 10 10:46 BST (UK)  »
My great grandfather John Pearson adopted Horace Carnell in 1900.  He married his second wife Fanny Bellhouse in 1894 and they all lived together in Leeds.  My gran, his daughter by a previous marriage lived with us in later life but never mentioned her adopted half brother.  Can anyone help find my great uncle Horace or does anyone know of John Pearson joiner/cabinet maker after those dates?.  I have the 1901 and 1911 census but no other details.

Warwickshire / Watkins in Aston (Frain connection)
« on: Monday 09 August 10 10:10 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on Watkins family from Aston around 1910/20 onwards.  Charles Watkins married Winifred Frain in Dec 1910.
They had 3 children.  John C (b Dec 1911), Alice M (b Sept 1913) and Arthur W (b Dec 1915).
If this is the correct family they were living at 55, Jardine Road, Aston around 1915/16 and Winifred (Winnie) was from County Mayo my grandfathers sister.

Staffordshire / Foster of Darlaston
« on: Monday 09 August 10 08:27 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on Miriam Foster.  She is known as Miriam, Midiam and Midey.  She was born in Darlaston in 1877 and her father Joseph is shown as a coal miner on the marriage certificate.
I cannot find a close match on the 1881 census in any of her names or for a Joseph with a daughter of the appropriate age.
In 1991 she turns up as a servant in the household of Fanny Addy (misspelt as Fanney) in the Barnsley Yorkshire area.
Most Family trees have her marrying Albert (b 1869) the son of Fanny.  She did marry an Albert (b 1872) but he was Fanny's nephew.  She also turns up on a few family trees but these have the wrong father shown.  The marriage was in Dec 1892 and on her wedding certificate she uses the name Midiam and becomes Midiam Addy.  It seems that she married a few weeks after her 16th birthday but says she is 18 on the certificate.
