Family History Beginners Board / Slezinger
« on: Wednesday 20 October 10 10:53 BST (UK)  »
My wife's family come from Croatia and we have found a little information about her ancestory, but and there is a big BUT, we have come to a full stop. Trouble is, she was the only survivor from the Holocaust and all (or nearly all) her family records have been lost.
Recently, we have found that her father's brother emigrated to N America from Kosica, Croatia and his father's name was Adolf, when he was about 18 years old and that would have been somewhere in the early 1900's - est. 1915-18....his surname was Slezinger and he had a daughter, who did ballet. So not a lot to go on there  :(
We do know that he emigrated to Detroit, Michigan.
So, question. Does this forum get  read in the USA? Or, is there a better (Forum) line of research that we might try?

Essex / The PEACOCKS of Matching
« on: Monday 16 August 10 08:38 BST (UK)  »
I am descended from the Peacocks of Matching/High Laver. It is a very common name in that area and their are other relations in Great Parndon.
The earliest relatives I can find are John b 1710, d June 1742 = Mary Church whose decendants I have traced down to my Grandfather Henry (Harry) who lived on the 'Green' until his death in 1966 aged 88.
Henry's children were Jim, Hetty, Lily and my father Len.

Anyone knowing the family and who can add anything more to its history, please get in touch, as, although I have researched history back to 1710, I would love to go back even further, but I am now 'stuck'.

Dumfriesshire / Identifying district in Dumfriesshire - Ecclefechan
« on: Sunday 08 August 10 10:31 BST (UK)  »
I have just been given a link to this website and on initial reading it seems to be a vast resource with lots of knowledgeable people  :)

So here goes. My family originated in Scotland and the links go back to a dead end (at the moment) in Ecclefechan.  I cannot find that village as a parish in Dumfriesshire, but suspect it could be under Hoddam.  Could anyone confirm that, please. My family name is Graham - so not much chance of finding someone with the names John, James or Graham!  >:(
