Fife / Ancestry of Wardlaw family of Dunfermline area
« on: Wednesday 25 July 12 19:59 BST (UK)  »
Looking for Wardlaw ancestors.  I've managed to get back to GEORGE WARDLAW, probably born around 1560 in Dunfermline, spouse ANNIE (a.k.a. NANS) MICHELL OR MITCHELL, but am having difficulty in finding George's parents and their ancestors.  George and Annie had at least a couple of children - NICOL, born/baptised Dunfermline 24 March 1582 and CUTHBERT, born/baptised 28 March 1585.  Was this branch of the WARDLAW family related to the BETHUNE/BEATON dynasty?  Any information would be very helpful.

Looking for information about the above individual - parents William Cranmer and Jane (?Little).  The family seem to have worked in the calico printing industry and I am looking for information about where they originated (possibly Newcastle area, but have been unable so far to find a connection), and where they went - possibly to either Lancashire/Derby border area or to Antrim, Ireland as there are Cranmers who turned up working as Calico Printers in Carnmoney in Antrim.  Also looking for siblings/descendants of Hedley.  Can anyone help, please?

Northumberland / Cranmer and Hedley families, Northumberland
« on: Monday 07 May 12 22:14 BST (UK)  »
There are various spellings of the name.  Several family members lived in Newcastle in the 18th century area as well as in Carlisle in Cumberland.  The particular individual I am looking for is Hedley Cranmer, whose father was surnamed Cranmer, and his mother surnamed Hedley.  The Hedleys were located around the Hexham area, and I am trying to work out the various strands.  Can anyone assist, please.  The family in the latter 18th and early 19th centuries were employed in textiles, mainly linen and calico printing - in Lancashire, Antrim and Perthshire.  Does anyone know if this is the same family who lived in Carlisle and were employed as Calico printers?

Perthshire / Cranmer family - Tibbermore burials
« on: Thursday 26 April 12 20:51 BST (UK)  »
I am currently researching several members of the Cranmer family who lived in Tibbermore parish during the 19th century and worked in the surrounding linen bleachfields.  Most of the family lived in Huntingtower.  The list of MI's for Tibbermore suggests that there is/are Cranmer burials there, but so far my research has proved negative.  If not b uried in Tibbermore, where are they likely to have been buried?

Perthshire / Stewarts of Meikle Trochry - query descent from Stewarts of Garth
« on: Thursday 26 April 12 20:46 BST (UK)  »
A 19th century secondary resource done into Stewarts in Atholl by a member of the Irvine family suggests that the Stewarts of Trochry in the parish of Little Dunkeld were descended from the House of Garth.  I have been told that the Stewarts of Meikle Trochry were descended from the Stewarts of Grandtully, bugt am struggling to find the connection between the Stewart family John Stewart and spouse Christian Stewart (maiden name also Stewart) and their family Alexander born around 1897, which was possibly also the year of his parents' marriage, then a second son, a daughter Margaret, then third and fourth sons (twins John and Donald born 1793)  nd several other lagter children.  By the date of the secondary resource Donald's twin John was living in Dollar and working at Dollar Bleachfield.  Donald went to work in Stanley at the mills, then moved to one of the bleachfields around Perth, possibly at Luncarty.  Looking for help which may point me in the correct direction of John and Cnristian's ancestry, also dates and location of John and Christian's births and names of their parents, plus residence, if possible.

Looking for information about John and Christian Stewart (maiden name possibly also Stewart or Stuart), who resided at Meikle Trochry, parish of Little Dunkeld, Perthshire, at the time of the births of their twin sons John and Donald on 1 May 1793 (OPR Births 373/00 0010 0205.  John was a farmer, son Donald also became a farmer, location unknown.  Looking for details of birth, marriage and death of John (senior) and his spouse Christian, also names of their parents.  Would John senior have been a tenant farmer, and if so, who would have been the laird?  Can anyone help, please?

Searched records for Meikle Trochry and came across an entry in the Commisariat of Dunkeld Records in which the testament of a GRISSELL STEWART of Meikle Trochry was confirmed on 24 March 1747, so there were Stewart family members living there nearly fifty years before the births of John and Donald.  Quite possibly Grissell was a grandparent or aunt of the twins, but I haven't been able to find definite records for any more members of the family at that address, although FamilySearch has birth and marriage records for several people names John Stuart or Stewart in the parish of Little Dunkeld between 1749 and 1793, and no record of a marriage of John Stewart to Christian Stuart or Stewart, so possibly Stuart was not her maiden name, although it is recorded as such on Donald's death certificate.

Looking for information about the 1941 Portsmouth Blitz, in particular civilian casualties and their locations.  A member of the Keemer family of Portsea is believed to have been a civilian casualty.  Her name was Susan or Susannah KEEMER.
