Armed Forces / HMS Veronica (Royal Navy) 1924
« on: Saturday 03 February 24 16:27 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather's naval records show that he served on HMS Veronica from 20 Mar 1924 to 10 January 1927.
When my father received his records from the Naval Historical Branch (Naval Staff) section of the MOD  in Portsmouth a few years back, they listed the various ships he had served on, along with a short description.  According to this letter they state:

"HMS Veronica was a 'V&W' Class destroyer, serving in the patrol flotillas off the South cost of Ireland".

Google searches in fact suggest that HMS Veronica would have been out in the Pacific at that time, cruising around New Zealand and surrounding islands.

Can anyone confirm that this was the case please? I'm going round in circles with this one!

I love this photo of my mum, but it's spoilt by the white circle. Can anything be done, please?
I also have a few of their wedding with the same problem, it's such a shame.

Glamorganshire / Who was at this address in 1901 Cardiff?

Can anyone tell me who was running a shop at 9 Wyndham Arcade at the time of the 1901 census?

Dorset / Which hospital in Bournemouth 1939?
« on: Wednesday 08 November 23 19:22 GMT (UK)  »
The 1939 register shows a relative of mine as a patient in a hospital, but I don't know which one.
It gives only the address - 84 Southbourne Road, Bournemouth.  I've tried Googling, but none of the possibles mention that road - can anyone tell me which one it was please?

I'm thinking it might have been a TB sanitorium, my relative was born and lived in Battersea, London all his life; he was 37 in 1939, and died two years later back in Battersea.

Warwickshire / Seven children, only one baptised?
« on: Sunday 25 June 23 16:35 BST (UK)  »
William Henry Burns (Window Blind Manufacturer) and Sarah Margaret (nee Davies) married in Birmingham in 1865. Six of their children were born in Birmingham, with one exception, Elizabeth Margaret Burns b. 9 Sep 1868 Chelsea, Middx - she was baptised at St. George, Birmingham on 24 Jan 1869. I cannot find a baptism for the other six:

William Jesse b. 2 Mar 1866
Helen Frances b. 6 Aug 1870
Robert Henry b. 24 Oct 1871
Annie Sarah b. 6 Dec 1873
Flora Beatrice b. 3 Jul 1875
Robert Arthur b. 20 Sep 1877

It seems odd that the only child they baptised (apparently) was the one who wasn't born in Birmingham .....I was hoping to find baptisms in order to confirm residence addresses.

Any thoughts would be appreciated !

Somerset / Photographer's studio Weston-S-Mare

Would anyone be able to find out which years R W BROWN & SONS, Boulevard Studio, W-S-M
were in business, please?

I have a photo of my grandmother b. 1898 in which she looks to be around 20+ years old, so it must be about the late 1910s.  Her family ran some shops in Royal Arcades from 1896, and Boulevard from about 1907 onwards.

Canada Lookup Request / Married in Lambeth, London - then Ontario?
« on: Monday 20 December 21 14:50 GMT (UK)  »
I have William Hudson b. 1843/44 Lambeth, London, England....
He married a Mary Ann Butler on 12 Sep 1868 at St Mary, Lambeth....
There is a marriage showing for Ontario, Canada for a William Hudson/Mary Ann Butler on Ancestry but I don't have worldwide access subscription and therefore have no date.

I would be so grateful if anyone is able to find and view this record - thank you in much anticipation.

Census and Resource Discussion / Can I search 1891 Wales census by address?
« on: Monday 16 February 15 18:18 GMT (UK)  »
I have subscriptions to Ancestry and FindMyPast - but I don't have any reference numbers, just the address, which is:

9 Wyndham Arcade, St. Mary, Cardiff (it was a Fancy Goods shop).

Any advice gratefully received.

Mrs. T.
