Travelling People / Tracing a relative who travelled with Carnivals in America
« on: Monday 30 August 10 15:52 BST (UK)  »
I have recently discovered that someone I have been researching travelled throughout America with various Carnivals and Circuses, he was last heard of in Ada, Oklahoma in 1935 aged at that time about 44, his name was Charles Russell Hetherington but he also used the aliases of Russell Charles Hetherington, Carl Hetherington & Dan Hetherington, he was born in Norwood, Canada so could potentially have returned to Canada too.

At one point in 1932 he stayed at the Blue Bird Camp, Waco, Texas

Does anyone have any tips as to how I can trace him?

Canada / Are you related to a Home Child?
« on: Saturday 08 May 10 10:43 BST (UK)  »
If so its not too late to submit your child's story for an anthology to be published later this year,

Do you have a story to tell about your Home Child?

An Special Edition Anthology IV Book, to be published later this summer by Canadian Stories magazine, is a great opportunity for us to tell our stories and have them grouped together in one book, to acknowledge and honour our Home Children, and a wonderful keepsake and resource for 2010 Year of the British Home Child.

There is no limit for the length of your story and no deadline given yet.

You can include picture(s) which will be printed in black and white for the Anthology.

Please let me know if you are interested and I will give you the email addresses of those organizing it

Cheshire / Illegitimate or not?
« on: Sunday 07 March 04 22:56 GMT (UK)  »
Not long ago unexpectantly found my ggg grandad Samuel Ashworth in 1861 census living as a single man with his parents aged 19 in Hyde, I had expected to find him married to Elizabeth,20, with a kiddie John aged 2. This is indicating that either he married a woman with an illegitmate kid, or a widow with a kid. Makes it harder as I have'nt yet found the marriage so can't seek a baptism. I suspect Elizabeths maiden name was Booth as she called her 3rd son Booth Ashworth.

Helpppp

The Common Room / stumped

This is what I have, Isabella Little married John Thompson 1852 in Alston,Cumberland. By 1861 they were living in Middleton in Teesdale, Durham along with kiddies Sophia, 4, Walter, 3, Isabel, 1. In 1871 they were in Darlington and Sophia and the dad had vanished, and it was just isabella, widow and 3 kiddies walter 13, Isabel, 11, and Mary Ann, 9. By 1881 they were still in Darlington, Walter too appears to be dead leaving just Isabella and her youngest girls Isabel 20 and Polly 18. Cannot find any of them in 1891 and 1901. An SKS has rummaged through various Darlington parish registers and found no sign of Isabellas death, the only match was one in Easington but I looked at the death register for the only CofE church and she was'nt there!!! Cannot find a fitting marriage for either girl all the ones i've investigated have turned out to be wrong.

I need suggestions or helpppp
