Occupation Interests / Merchant Navy - Arthur Parker
« on: Wednesday 22 May 19 08:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello - I am trying to trace the following man:
Arthur Parker (no middle name on birth or marriage certs
DoB:  18/Aug/1900 - Deptford
Military history:  Middlesex Regiment (no service record found - probably burned in the blitz)
On marriage cert to Florence Ann Blunden on 16/5/1920 he is a 'seaman'
On death cert of his wife on 1/9/1925 he is listed as 'seaman in merchant service'
There is no record that I can find of any children, employment, re-marriage or death.
I have tried Ancestry, FindMyPast,etc
He seems to have disappeared after his wife's death
Any suggestions would be most welcome
Thanks

World War One / Merchant Navy ship Margarita 1915
« on: Thursday 03 March 11 13:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I am trying to trace a merchant seaman backwards using crewlists. I have found him back to serving on the Margarita (ON 115951) in 1915.  But that crewlist is not held in Newfoundland nor does it seem to be at Greenwich or Kew.  If I can't find that crewlist then I am at a major brick wall.  I have him on crewlists back from 1922 but without the Margarita list I cant find out what ship he was on before 1915.  Any ideas?
Many thanks
Peter

World War One / HALE, Welsh Regiment
« on: Tuesday 01 June 10 08:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi All:
I am searching for information on two HALE brothers (maybe half-brothers) - Arthur Albert HALE and Gilbert HALE.  Arthur was born early 1890's in Jamaica to Edwin Harvey HALE.  In 1922 he signed on to the SS Tredenham in Barry.  He settled a year later in Australia.

Gilbert's parentage is uncertain and birthdate/place unknown; he was 2nd mate of the SS Northdene.

He later joined the Welsh Regiment and was killed in WW1.

"In Memory of
Private GILBERT HALE M M
35274, 14th Bn., Welsh Regiment
who died on 10 July 1916
Remembered with honour
THIEPVAL MEMORIAL"

His Medal Card provides no more information

Any help for these elusive characters would be greatly appreciated

Cambridgeshire / WAYMAN & AMORY; Haddenham
« on: Saturday 10 March 07 23:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

I need help tracking down two individuals from Haddenham.  I have the Haddenham parish register fiche from the Cambs FHS.

Richard AMORY married Elizabeth WAYMAN in Haddenham 21 Dec 1807.  Richard was the son of Richard AMORY and Sarah BOGGIS who married, but were not born, in Haddenham.

So I am looking for a birth of Richard AMORY around 1750.

Elizabeth WAYMAN was consistent in her age on all the censuses and must have been born about 1789.  Certainly not much later because she married in 1807, and she didn’t die until 1872 in Ely, age 85.  She was also consistent in saying she was born in Haddenham.

So I am looking for the baptism of Elizabeth WAYMAN, close to Haddenham in about 1787-89.

The only other possibility for Elizabeth is that she was in fact baptised as Mary Wayman, daughter of the widow Elizabeth Wayman on 27 Jan 1789, and took on her mother’s name sometime before her marriage to Richard Amory in 1807.  I have no idea how I would confirm this.

If anyone has access to parish registers around Haddenham I would be very grateful for a look-up.  Also for any suggestions for further research.

Many thanks

Berkshire / Parish Registers
« on: Sunday 25 February 07 20:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All:

On December 7th, 2005 the Berkshire County Archivist, Peter Durrant, wrote the following to FreeREG:

My discussions with various parties have very recently been concluded and I was on the point of writing to let you know the outcome, which is a decision that we intend to proceed in partnership with the Berkshire Family History Society in promoting access to records here. I shall therefore not be granting other permissions for the transcription of registers, nor shall I be authorising release of GSU (Genealogical Society of Utah) films for this purpose.

Yours sincerely

Peter Durrant

So Mr. Durrant and his Office are paying lip-service to their mandate "to preserve records relating to the county of Berkshire and its people, and to make them available for research to anyone who is interested in the county's past."  Yet they are not fulfilling their mandate, as it is almost impossible for me to access the records of my parish of interest.  He says he is "promoting access to records" - a blatant piece of misinformation.

It seems we have an unholy alliance between the Berkshire Record Office and the Berkshire Family History Society to withhold access to parish registers by the general public for as long as possible.  What arrogance.  Why is Mr.
Durrant allowing a small group of individuals to dictate who may access these records, where they may access them and how they may access them?

In 6 months transcribers of Norfolk parish registers have provided the public, through FreeREG, with transcriptions of 151 parishes.  In Berkshire, the FHS has transcribed and made available (for a price) a total of 22 parishes and this has taken several years.

What will the Berkshire RO or the Berkshire FHS do if I transcribe a film that I borrow through the Latter Day Saints and post the transcription on my personal website?  What is the difference between me doing that and FreeREG doing it, other than organisation and the scale of the project?  It has already happened in a number of counties that individuals' websites have become centres for parish register searches.

It seems that Berkshire Record Office and Berkshire FHS are joining forces with King Canute and the Luddites in their reaction to this.

Suffolk / NUDDS and PLUMMER in Beccles
« on: Friday 12 January 07 00:01 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All:
I have been researching my NUDDS roots in Norfolk, and have now come to a Suffolk link that I need help with.
According to Boyd's marriage index, Sam NUDDS married An PLUMMER in Beccles in 1712, and William NUDDS married An GOODAY in Beccles in 1730.
Does anyone have access to the Beccles registers who can confirm these dates and, even better, give more more info on the NUDDS/PLUMMER/GOODAY families in Beccles

Many Thanks
Peter

Wiltshire / PARRICK in Winterslow
« on: Friday 23 June 06 21:05 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the parents/siblings of Elizabeth PARRICK, born Winterslow in 1756.  She married Samuel Judd in 1777.  I have the JUDD tree but am stuck with Elizabeth.  I think Elizabeth Parrick and Samuel Judd had 10 children, but I only have familes for 2 of them.
Does anyone have any information or connections?
Many thanks, Peter
