Durham / William Lewthwaite of Gateshead
« on: Wednesday 01 May 19 07:38 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have easy access to the registers for St Mary Gateshead?  I am searching for the burial of William Lewthwaite between 16 January 1714/15 when he signed his will and 7 February 1714/15 when a bond was drawn up to ensure the will was correctly executed.

At the same time, I also need the burial of his first wife, Mary Lewthwaite, between July 1697 and December 1700 and the burial of his second wife, Katherine Lewthwaite, between July 1701 and January 1714/15.  However, I appreciate that these last two could be a big ask depending upon how many burials took place each year, so will understand if these are not possible.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Armed Forces / Lancashire Fusiliers 5th Battalion Boer War

My great uncle William Wilkinson served in the 5th battalion Lancashire Fusiliers (Private 295) from 6 May 1901 to 16 August 1902, when he paid £1 and was discharged.  Can anyone suggest how I might find out what the 5th battalion did during this period?

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Marriage 1619 St Giles in the Fields
« on: Monday 18 May 15 22:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello!
Is anyone working with the St Giles in the Fields parish registers?  I could do with a transcript of the 1619 marriage of Henry Fleetwood and Jane Barefoot.  The marriage date etc has come from Boyd's Index, so the year should be accurate.  The details, if any, are crucial to the next stage of my research.  I know this is a big favour to ask and you probably get a lot of requests like this, but I live a long way from London and live in hope!

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Marriage 1841 St Mary, Penwortham
« on: Friday 28 November 14 08:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hello!

Is there anyone out there who can access the marriages at St Mary, Penwortham in 1841?  I need the details of the marriage lines for Joseph Gregory and Eliza Kershaw.  The marriage was registered in October/November/December 1841 and Lancs BMD has supplied the name of the church.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Langriff, near Campsall
« on: Saturday 05 April 14 18:08 BST (UK)  »
In 1782 Thomas CAWTHORNE was buried at St Mary Magdalene's, Campsall from Langriff.  Information places him living in Moss als Moseley.  Was Moss also known as Moseley or was Moseley a specific area in Moss?  I have found Moseley Grange and Moseley House Farm.

So the question is where was Langriff?  I have scoured the 1841 OS map for the area and not spotted any likely candidates.  I appreciate that Thomas could have been living with one of his children when he died and they lived in Norton, Kirk Bramwith and Askern.  Again no sign of Langriff.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Kind regards.....................Sue

Hello!

Does anyone have access to marriages between 1684 and 1695 in St Martin in the Fields and St Giles in the Fields?

I am searching for the marriage of Christopher Rigg to a lady named Mary between 1684 and 1694.  Christopher's first wife was buried 10 August 1684 St Martin in the Fields and his first child with Mary was baptised in the same church 24 April 1694.  I am looking for a connection to the Fleetwood family and I know that there were Fleetwoods in the St Giles area, so I am wondering whether that is a possibility especially as records are so hard to come by.

If there is a kind person, with time to spare I would be happy to cover any expenses.  A printout of the marriage or any Fleetwood records spotted would be much appreciated.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Leeds Prison 1852
« on: Monday 31 December 12 11:13 GMT (UK)  »
I have a John Thexton, born c1833 Westmorland, who was sentenced to 7 years transportation in August 1852 for larceny, it being his 2nd offence.  Unfortunately, later that month he was involved in an attack on a prison warder in Appleby gaol and the newspaper account states that he was removed at the beginning of September to the 'borough gaol at Leeds' to serve 18 months solitary confinement.  At this point I lose sight of John.

Would the borough gaol have been in Armley?  If so, I know that no records have survived for the period I am interested in.

I have tried searching available convict transport lists, but with no joy, so any suggestions would be gratefully received!
