World War One / Prisoners of War
« on: Thursday 17 November 22 12:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I have found out that a relative was taken prisoner at Fleurbaix on 9 April 1918 and taken to Friedrichsfeld.

My question is, save for escape, would it be likely that he would have been held as a prisoner of war until the end of the war (and in the same place)? Were there any prisoner exchanges? When did British WW1 POWs get released and return to England?

Thanks in advance

Armed Forces / Where to start with Royal Navy research?
« on: Sunday 12 December 21 15:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
An ancestor's 1860 birth certificate has under father's occupation 'Petty Officer HMS Centurion'.

Where does one start with researching this individual's career and ships served on? I can't find him on any census and assume he was always away at sea on those dates. I'm a bit of a beginner with armed forces family history research.

Any pointers gratefully received.
Thanks

Hello

I'm looking for any leads or other information concerning John BEERE and Florence Elizabeth Smallcombe BANKS who married in Manhattan, NY on June 1 1887.

I know a bit about Florence, including her birth and who she came to the US from England with, but can't find any information after she married or about her husband. ???

Any help gratefully received.

Canada / Marquis Municipality, Bow River, Alberta

Hello

At the time of 1916 and 1921 censuses in Canada, some family of mine was to be found in Marquis Municipality, Bow River, Province of Alberta.

I'm having trouble locating where this was exactly, looking at a modern map.

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks

Hello

Please could someone look up the details of the family headed by Cornelius Garrett. I think he should be with his wife Charlotte in Norton St. Philip. It's actually any children I'm most interested in.

Thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / 1847 Birth certificate
« on: Thursday 17 November 16 13:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I would really appreciate some help making out the place of birth on the attached image.

The certificate is from Bristol (Saint Paul sub-district) and I have another source suggesting that this birth was in Henry Street, which appears to be in the Totterdown part of Bristol at least nowadays.

It looks to me like 1 Mills's Place.

Thanks

Hello

Would someone be able to do a census look up please? I'm afraid that I don't have a lot to go on.

I am looking for a couple:
the man is a William Long but I have no further details except he was widowed and then married in 1837 again.
I think his wife is Elizabeth born abt. 1783? (as opposed to Anna, who may have been his previous wife) as they married in St. Paul's, Bristol in 1837 and I'm hoping they would be in that area in 1841. They could also have been in Wiltshire, but I'm assuming there were no children due to age.  ???

Are there any likely candidates?

Thanks ever so

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Walter WILLIAMS believed born 1792 - census lookup
« on: Wednesday 04 September 13 21:32 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I am looking for the whereabouts and family of a certain Walter Williams who was a brewer in Bristol. Evidence suggests his wife was Eliza BAKER. I believe he was born about 1792 in Wales and have found him in the 1881 census still alive.

Could anyone look in particular in 1851?

Thanks  :)
