They had 3 children, Pietro b.1866, Livio b. 1870 and Raffaelle b. 1878. All except Pietro were married in Italy probably in the same region. any suggestions please

Hi, I've been trying to trace my G.Grandfather George Roberts for some time now and although I have his army records, marriage cert', death cert' and the 1891/1901 census records I cannot trace his birth. He says he was born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. He enlisted in the army 19th June 1860 from Trowbridge. He spent 22 years, most of them in India where he married. He was discharged 18th April 1882 aged 40 years and 4 months, (b. Dec' 1841 or Jan1842) His place of residence was initially Old Shildon, Durham but was changed to Devises, Wiltshire. A friend of mine found a Civil Service transcription on find my past which states his birth as 5th Dec' 1841 ? dcl Heighington, Durham but it does not state where he was born. There is no Wiltshire record of his birth and I can't find him on the 1851 census. I did find a William Roberts at Shildon b. c1847 at Trowbridge which I think is his brother but he isn't on the 1851 census either.  Anyone any ideas. Tarblonka

United States of America / Looking for Roberts family
« on: Friday 04 May 12 11:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi, my grandfather's brother Ernest Roberts emigrated to the U S on 14th May 1908 sailing on the "Arabic" from Liverpool to meet his fiance Emily in Saginaw, Mich. They married at Saginaw and they had 3 sons. I found them on the 1910, Fed' census at Saginaw, 1920 at Knox City, Indiana, and 1930 at Cook County, Illinois. I believe Ernest died 13th Aug 1970 and Emily on 28th June 1974 both at San Diego, Cal. I was hoping that the 1940 census would reveal the whereabouts of the sons, but it is not indexed yet. Can anyone direct me as to where I might be able to search search now. Thank you, Tarblonka

Wiltshire / Finding an illigitimate ancestor
« on: Monday 01 November 10 19:51 GMT (UK)  »
I am having trouble finding the birth certificate of my g grandfather George Roberts. According to the 1891, 1901 census and his army records, he was born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. He enlisted in the 1st battalion The Wilts' regiment at Trowbridge on 19th June 1860 at the age of 18. He spent 22years in the army, most of them in Canada & India. He was discharged on 18th April1882 aged 40 years & 4 months (born about January 1842). He was married in India to a 25year old widow and names his father as James Roberts deceased. I have contacted the Wiltshire Registrar and the GRO but there is no record of a George Roberts for around that date. I am thinking he was born illegitimate and his mother married a James Roberts who gave him his surname.
Can anyone advise me what to try next. :(
