Durham Lookup Requests / Alfred INGRAM abt 1833, Durham
« on: Sunday 30 January 11 05:53 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for an Alfred Ingram born about 1833 in Durham.  In 1871 Census I believe it is him living in Ryde, Isle of Wight, sugar boiler.  Birthplace is given as Dulley Spring, Durham.  His father I believe was William, coal miner.  I have searched all Census but can't seem to find him.  On the 1871 Census it states that he was unmarried, yet there is an Alfred Ingram, sugar boiler on marriage register to Eliza Berry in 1867, Isle of Wight.  I have this marriage certificate.

There is the possibility that the name has been misread.

Any help much appreciated.  Fay

Gloucestershire / BIRTH for Charlotte LEWIS
« on: Sunday 23 January 11 01:52 GMT (UK)  »
I cannot seem to find a birth reference for Charlotte Lewis born Bristol in 1865.  I tried looking up just Charlotte and didn't find any results for Bristol at all.  I was wondering if any records were lost during WW2.  Would there be some other reason that I am not aware of?  On Census records it states that Charlotte was born in Bristol - no deviation from this information.

Can anyone enlighten me please?

I received an Australian Death Certificate today and am trying to read the name of the place of birth for William Hunter Shepherd born about 1803 in what I believe is Forfarshire, Scotland.  The handwriting to me looks something like GLARMONAT, but I know that this can't be right.  Can someone with local knowledge kindly advice me please.

I am researching Alfred Ingram born Dalley Spring about 1833, Sugar boiler.  In the 1871 England Census his birth place is Dalley Spring?  I can't seem to find any reference to this place and am wondering what it is near.  Can anyone help please? I have had a look at the 1841, 1851 and 1861 Census and can find no Dalley Spring mentioned.

Could someone tell me please what "opt" after the names stand for on the Parish Marriage records?
I think that the "X" stands for full age.  Am I right?

Breconshire / Thomas LEWIS 1839 born Builth
« on: Saturday 18 December 10 06:54 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for a death of Thomas LEWIS born about 1839 in Builth.  He appears on the 1841, 1851 and 1861 Wales Census.  His parents were Charles and Mary (although in the 1851 Census it seems his father is referred to as John!).

He married Eliza Berry in 1860 in Abergavenny.  Thomas and Eliza appear on the 1861 Census living in Brecon.  I can't Thomas in any later Census records.  By 1871 Eliza (wife) was living with James Rowley (1871 Census) in Glamorgan.  She ended up marrying James Rowley in 1884 in Cardiff.  By this time they had had several children.  On the marriage certificate for Eliza and James Rowley it states that Eliza was a widow.  This means therefore that Thomas Lewis must have died sometime between 1861 and 1871.

Can any one help in pinpointing the death please?  I have tried searching on Ancestry, but haven't seen anything that looks like a match. I would like to send for a certificate if I have a fair idea of which Thomas Lewis.

Most grateful for any help.   Fay
