Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1851 Cullingworth families in Chorlton district
« on: Tuesday 14 June 05 00:28 BST (UK)  »
I would be grateful for any 1851 Census details of folk surnamed Cullingworth in the Chorlton area, or elsewhere in Lancashire.
I am trying to sort out Cullingworth families whose births, marriages and deaths were registered in the Chorlton district.
The IGI shows marriages, and baptisms of children of one or more called George Cullingworth.
The 1861 Census shows an Elizabeth Cullingworth , widow, 56, schoolmistress, born Haworth, Staffs and her daughter Lucy aged 18 born Manchester, at 32 Bangor Court(?), Chorlton. Probably widow of a George. No birth registration for Lucy as yet on FreeBMD.
Hopeful of help!

Northamptonshire / William Cullingworth born Daventry c1814
« on: Thursday 09 June 05 22:07 BST (UK)  »
Any information welcomed on the following family:
William Cullingworth was aged 47 in the 1861 Census at Tenbury, Worcs. His occupation was 'Landed Proprietor' and his place of birth was given as Daventry. His wife Elizabeth was with him.
The IGI lists William Cullingworth marrying Elizabeth Hyde 20.1.1840 at the Chapelry of Hanley Child, Worcester and he was stated to be son of James Priestman Cullingworth.
The death of a James Priestman Cullingworth was registered in 1843 in the Tenbury Registration District, perhaps William's father.
On various websites I have found references to an earlier William Cullingworth in Northants:
William Cullingworth, Bailiff, witnessed a document in 1791
William Cullingworth, Surveyor, in documents of 1768, 1772  and 1776

I am keen to discover how James Priestman Cullingworth was related to the earlier William and to trace their births, and hope to discover where they came from so that I can link them up to other Cullingworth families.

The only other references that I have are from the IGI:
5 March 1801: James Preistman (sic) Cullingworth married Elizabeth Cooper at St. Lawrence, Jewry, London (IGI-submission)

12 June 1823 Priestman Cullingworth married Elizabeth Partridge at Aston Juxta Birmingham, Warwick (IGI-BTs). (Maybe the same chap, or perhaps a son)

I am told that Joseph Cullingworth, publican, is listed in the Post Office Directory for 1851 in the Cripplegate Within Ward (part 1). Central business district.
His address is given as 'Aldermanbury'.
I would be grateful for details of his household in the 1851 census along with the folio and page number
Thanks, Culli

Seeking Thomas Gardener or Gardner born Harwell, Berkshire, UK, aged 1 or 2 in 1861, and his family. In 1871 he was a 'pauper' in the Wantage Union Workhouse, aged 12, and there was no-one else of that surname in the household. His surname written as Gardner.
Have not found him in 1881 but in 1891 census he was living in Peckham, London, aged 31 with wife Minnie (nee Crisp) and son William (aged 3 months). Surname then spelled Gardener.
