Canada Lookup Request / Mahala Jane Titus
« on: Tuesday 14 December 21 02:15 GMT (UK)  »
Mahala Jane Titus (nee Priest) was my 2nd great grandmother born around 1820 in New Brunswick, married to Daniel Titus. I havent been able to find any marriage records for them or any details of Mahala Jane's parents. I've seen other trees online that suggest her parents were called William and Sarah but with no proof or reason attached so I don't know if its accurate or not. Usually she is just called Jane and sometimes Mahala or even Mahalia.

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate that.

The Common Room / Embezzlement and transportation - right person?
« on: Thursday 31 January 19 23:46 GMT (UK)  »
I have a puzzle with my 3rd great grandfather William Field Fidler. I have his birthdate as abt 1791 and death 1839. Then there was this record of embezzlement which other ancestry members have attached to him. https://www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?div=t18191027-96 BUT....it says that he was sentenced to 14 years transportation which would mean he wasn't around when his children were conceived - which I suppose is possible, even with his name on their records. But it would also mean that he got married and went to court a few months later and that he sadly only had 6 years after coming home before he died. I'm trying to work out if he is the same person or not. I don't know much about transportation, where they would have been sent and whether they would have necessarily come back afterwards....

Europe / Can't find my French ancestors in France (Chevreau)
« on: Wednesday 30 January 19 09:13 GMT (UK)  »
My great grandfather George Gustave Chevreau (abt 1871) was married to Marie Margueritte Dupuy (1875)  Both were apparently born in France but I can't find any trace of their existence in France on Ancestry. The earliest record of them that I've found is in the 1911 Census in UK. Can anyone help or does anyone know the best way of tracking down French records as I've not made any headway with this at all. Thanks!

Hello there.

I can't seem to make any headway with my tree of my Mums side of the family. My grandmother's name was Florence Emily Fiddler/Fidler and became Chevreau when she married in 1924. I have her wedding certificate but thats about it. She said that she was born in July 30 1903 although her age on the wedding certificate was 21 which suggests her birthdate might have been 1902.

I can find no one with her name, in the right area, of the right age in the birth records. I haven't been able to find her on the 1911 census. On her wedding certificate her fathers name was recorded as Robert George Fiddler (deceased) and he was a "Brewer". She married in London, St George, Hanover square and her address was recorded as 211 St Leonards Street, SW1 and her husband Robert Leon Chevreau lived at 14 Lillington Street, also SW1.

I don't know what her mothers name was and I can't find a definite match for her dad anywhere on census or birth records.  I don't know what to do next!

A few other things I remember her telling me, when I was a child....bearing in mind I might not remember it with 100%accuracy....she told me that her mother died when she was very young (the age of 7 rings a bell) from breast cancer. Her Dad remarried and she gained 2 step-sisters who were unkine to her as was her step-mother. She described it similarly to a cinderella type situation and I think that when she was old enough she ran away and went into service as a scullery maid.

I don't know if any of this can help me in my seach but I would appreciate and help and advice that anyone has to offer.

Thank you!
