Warwickshire / St Peter's Church, Coventry
« on: Saturday 06 September 08 20:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
Does anybody have any idea what is happening at St Peter's Church? I went there recently on a gravestone hunt and it's all cordoned off - it looks like gravestones have been moved to the side and the building is being worked on somehow. Does anyone know whether the gravestones will be put back, or what records are held there please?
Thanks :)

Devon / Bradley Hotel, Wolborough
« on: Monday 18 August 08 19:28 BST (UK)  »
I know it's a bit grim, but my grandfather died in the yard of the Bradley Hotel, Wolborough in 1963.
I'm assuming the hotel isn't around any more, but could anybody tell me where it was, or has anybody got any pictures of it? I'd like to get this morbid fascination out of my system!
Thanks  :-\

Devon Lookup Requests / GILLAN - burial
« on: Wednesday 06 August 08 13:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

My grandfather JOHN BROWN(e) GILLAN died 15/05/1963 in Wolborough. He lived in Torquay at the time of death. His death cert mentions a post mortem without inquest. Also the informant information says 'B.F Caunter, causing the body to be buried 104 Fourth Avenue, Teignmouth' - would this be the address of BF Caunter or the cemetery? Would anyone know where is he likely to be buried? Also what exactly does 'post mortem without inquest' mean?

Thanks for any help.

Northamptonshire Resources & Offers / Offer: The Church of St Leodegarius
« on: Saturday 12 April 08 21:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I am having a clearout and have come across a small leaflet about the Church of St Leodegarius in Ashby St Ledgers. I have to admit I didn't even know where it was, but a quick look on Google told me it's in Northamptonshire, so I thought I'd offer it on here if it's any use to anyone?
It includes the history of the church, some photographs, and lists some names from brasses and memorials.
If anyone can use it, let me know, I'll either photocopy it or just send it on.

Sligo / GILLANs in Sligo?
« on: Thursday 20 December 07 22:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

My gg grandfather PETER GILLAN was born in 1823 in Ireland, probably Sligo. At some point he emigrated to Scotland, and married ANN KEENAN in 1843 in Duntocher. I found this on banns from Oct/Nov 1843 although I can't find the marriage cert.

Any references to birth on censuses etc just say 'Ireland'. Peter's death cert just has horizontal lines in place of his parents (obviously he didn't discuss them with his children!) so I am at a bit of a loss to find a birth cert or any records from Ireland. I don't even know definitely that they were from Sligo, only a strong family opinion, and as we know these can often be wrong!

Any ideas where I can go next with this? Unfortunately I am stuck in Coventry so all my research is via the internet.

Thanks for any help  ::)
