Armed Forces / Military Medal Winner
« on: Tuesday 12 July 11 06:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschat,

My Cousin's Father, a Company Sergeant in the Wiltshire Regiment, won the Military Medal in the 1st World War. My Cousin would like to find out why his Father won this Medal. Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and if so, who we can contact please? No Service, or Pension record has been found on line.

Thank you,

Australia / Thomas Charles HALL-Missing
« on: Tuesday 26 January 10 08:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I am looking for a Thomas Charles Hall born 1877 Islington, London, England. Father: Philip James Hall, Mother: Hannah Jane nee Banting. Thomas had siblings: Esther Jane, Philip James, Hannah Eliza, Catherine (died age 2) and William Edward.

I have only been able to find Thomas on the 1881 and 1891 Census in Islington. Thomas at age 14 was an apprentice hairdresser. After 1891 I can find no trace of him. I have been through many records with no luck. His brother Philip died in New South Wales in 1969. I have looked at death records for Thomas in New South Wales but have been unable to find him there.

If anyone can help me find Thomas it would be very much appreciated.

Best wishes

Family History Beginners Board / Thomas Charles Hall
« on: Sunday 24 January 10 08:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

Can anyone help please? I am looking for any information for a Thomas Charles Hall born 1877 in the Islington area. Parents: Philip James Hall and Hannah Jane nee Banting.

The last address I have for him is 61 Durham Road, Upper Holloway Islington in the 1891 Census age 14, occupation Hairdressers assistant.  I have been unable to find Thomas in the 1901 or 1911 Censuses.

Both my husband and I have looked for a marriage for Thomas and so far been unable to connect him to a lady. We have also looked for a death for Thomas, and again have nothing concrete.

We have also looked for an Army record and Shipping Information, again, no luck.

If anyone thinks they can help me with any more information it would be very much appreciated.

Other Countries / Singapore: Philip James Hall may have died in Singapore
« on: Monday 04 May 09 07:53 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

I have a Philip James Hall who served in the British Army 1899 to 1914 and perhaps longer.

Philip was awarded a Pension and I have an address for him in Edmonton, London, England, but then he requests return to The Straits Settlements. Also showing an address - 404 Dato Kermat Road, Penang and C/o Eastern Smelting Co. Ltd. He says he is looking for work - Smelter.

I have not been able to find Philip on the GRO Index for death and would really like to know if he died in Singapore. Can anyone help please.

World War One / John Flechnoe Army Pension Record
« on: Saturday 02 May 09 10:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I have my Philip J Hall's Army Pension Record from Ancestry and within it there is a page that doesn't belong to Philip. If anyone out there has this John Flechnoe (I think the Suname is Flechnoe) I have one of his pages.

World War One / World War 1 Pensioner
« on: Wednesday 29 April 09 19:37 BST (UK)  »
I have a Philip James Hall, he joined the Middlesex Regiment in 1901. I have his Pension Record and the last date I have for him is 1917/19. I have an address for him at that time. He was single; I can't find a marriage or death date for him.

I have no idea what happened to him, so do you think it would be possible for me to obtain an address for him when he died, and his pension stopped. Does anyone know who I would write to to see if this is possible?

Thanks for any help

US Lookup Requests / Hird family who visited America
« on: Sunday 26 April 09 21:59 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I have a problem...I have just found my Gt. Aunt Esther Jane Hird (nee Hall) in the 1911 London Census with family. Esther was married to Charles Harrison Hird, and in the 1911 census, Esther says she is a Widow. She has 2 children, Annie and Jack. Jack was born in the USA 1904, as he is age 7.

Somewhere between 1900 and 1904 the family had gone to America, and Jack was born there. I am wondering now if his Father Charles died in America. Can anyone please tell me how I can find out if he did die in America, and where I can possibly find Jack's birth place.

Am I asking the impossible?

Thank you,
Dragonfly
