Antrim Resources & Offers / Connolly Family of Ballymoney, Antrim
« on: Tuesday 23 January 24 08:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I have traced the Connolly family (who immigrated to New Zealand in 1874) back to the marriage of Thomas John Connolly to Martha Martin in Ballymoney in 1847. The marriage entry says that Thomas John's father was John Connolly. I have also found a tree on FamilySearch that has Thomas' parents as being John Connolly and Martha Sullivan, but the evidence given to support this does not quite "jell" for me (there are 4 baptism records for children of a John and Martha (one of which is a Thomas Connolly) but they are Catholic records of a church in County Cork.) Can anybody provide any clarity? Did Thomas John Connolly indeed move from the south to Northern Ireland before his marriage in 1847? Or are there earlier Connolly records to be found in Ballymoney? Any help would be appreciated.

Lancashire / Woolleys of Liverpool or Broxton, Cheshire
« on: Saturday 26 March 22 08:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to trace the ancestors of John Woolley, born about 1904 in Liverpool. He died in 1936 aged 32 years. In 1926 he married Angela Maria Trimarco in Liverpool. She is believed to be of Italian descent. They had 3 children, John Christopher (1927), Angela M. (1929) and Edward J. (1931).

John (born ~1904) had sisters Elsie, May, Hilda and Mabel who had daughters Joan, Nora, Freda and Eileen - cousins to John (born 1927), but I don't know which daughter belongs to which of the mothers, nor who the mothers' spouses were.

John's (born ~1904) mother lived in Blackburn Street, Liverpool until she died in 1936. The rest of the family moved to Broxton, Cheshire at some point.

I would like to know who John's (born ~1904) parents were - I haven't been able to get a copy of their marriage entry yet, because of slow postage to Australia (where I live) due to Covid restrictions and I haven't been able to find anything concrete in the Census records.

I will also post this in the Cheshire section of the Forum.

I'm looking for information about Mary Agnes Power. She married John Patrick Welton in late 1907 or early 1908 (marriage index is in Mar quarter 1908) and their first child, Ivy Winifred Welton, was born in June 1908. I have been able to trace John Welton's roots to Ireland but I cannot get any further with Mary Power. The 1911 census (where the surname is spelt "Whelton") shows that she was born in Cardiff, Glamorganshire, and her age is 23 (therefore birth year is approx 1888.) The date of birth I have (25 Nov 1885) comes from the 1939 register. However, I cannot find her in any census before her marriage, nor can I determine a birth index record for her. Any help would be appreciated.

Monmouthshire / Agnes Moore Born 1881 Aberbeeg, Monmouthshire
« on: Sunday 17 May 20 08:47 BST (UK)  »
I'd like to find out about the origins of Agnes Moore, born in 1881 in Aberbeeg, Monmouthshire, Wales.

The details that I know about her are as follows: On 26th August 1901 she married Cecil James Phoenix, in Penmaen, Monmouthshire. The couple had 2 children, Cyril John Phoenix born in 1905, and Irene Maud Phoenix, born in 1906. Cecil James Phoenix died in early 1909 and later that year Agnes married Rees Williams. They had 1 child (that I know of), Leo Rees Williams born in 1910. According to the 1939 register (when she was married to Rees Williams) her birth date was 10th August 1881. The 1911 census (with Rees Williams) has her birthplace as Aberbeeg.

I have also found an Agnes Moore in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census records that appears to be her.
In 1901 she is a servant in the household of Hugh Herbert Price (birthplace is Aberbeeg.) There is a William Moore in the same household.
In 1891 she is classed as "adopted" in the household of George Benson (birthplace is again Aberbeeg.) There is also an Oliver Moore in the same household as well as a Charles Simmons aged 27.
In the 1881 census she is 2 years old in the household of Frederick Symmonds and she is again classed as "adopted" (birthplace is Bedwellty which I believe to be the district for Aberbeeg.) Interestingly the son of the household is Charles Symmonds, aged 17, which seems very similar to the Charles Simons in the 1891 census, although the birthplace details do not match up.

Does anyone know anything that would help me clarify the origins of Agnes Moore?

Waterford / Patrick Welton, Waterford, Ireland born about 1821, married Ellen
« on: Monday 04 May 20 11:25 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information about Patrick Welton, born in Waterford in around 1821. He married Ellen, born about 1825, however, I don't know her surname. They moved from Ireland to Wales some time before 1850 when their first child was born. I have been unable to find their marriage amongst Welsh records but have located them in the 1851 census of England & Wales. They had children Catherine (~1850), Ellen (~1852), William (~1854), Mary Ann (~1857), Michael Christopher (~1864) and Patrick (~1866) all born in Wales. I would love to find out more about the family's Irish roots.

I have been tracing the Stephens family who lived in Tredegar, Wales and found a reference to grave 191 row 7 section 8 in Cefn Golau cemetery. I believe that 4 of the Stephens children, born in the early 1900s, are buried there. As I live in Australia I'm not able to travel there but I wondered if anyone had a transcription, or better still, a photograph, of this particular grave? I don't think that they died as a result of any cholera epidemic - I believe that there are 2 sections to Cefn Golau - so I think this reference would relate to the non-cholera section.

I am looking for information regarding John Roche (various spellings, may be Roach.) He was born in Ireland about 1830 somewhere near Bandon, Cork. I know that his father's name was also John but do not know the name of his mother. John (the younger) left Ireland and settled in Wales. On 25th March 1851 he married Catherine Evans in the Cardiff district in Wales. She was born about 1834, also from Ireland. I could not find them in the 1851 England & Wales census, although I have found them in later censuses, so, they must have left Ireland before 1851. They had children Francis (~1854), Thomas (~1859), Charles (~1861), William (~1862), Maurice ~(1864), Charles Allen (~1865), Simon (~1870), Catherine (~1871), Bridget (~1874) and Stephen (~1877), all born in Wales. I would really like to know any information about the family's Irish roots.

Leicestershire / York family, Barrow-on-Soar, Leicestershire
« on: Tuesday 22 January 13 09:53 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information on the York family who lived in Barrow-on-Soar in the 1880s. I think they later moved to Leicester. The father was James York (born about 1852) and the mother, Lois (nee Lucas, born about 1851.) The first son, Ernest James was born in 1877, and a daughter, Minnie, in 1880. My aunt (who died about 10 years ago) told me that there were 3 more in the family, Ethel, Horace and Lucy, but I have no other information on these 3. I have located the 1881 census record for the family (but, of course, the younger children had not been born then) but after that have drawn a complete blank. Is there anyone who may have information on these 3 - birth years (I can't locate them in the BMD index) or the 1891 or 1901 census records. Ernest James York married Alice Barrows and emigrated to Australia in 1907 but the rest of the family remained in England.
