Australia Lookups completed / 1918 Birth NSW GIDDEY*COMPLETED* with thanks
« on: Sunday 22 May 11 03:05 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to establish whether Reginald Samuel GIDDEY is part of my family. I have his date and place of his birth from his WWII RAAF Service Record online. Unfortunately it only has his father's name recorded for next of kin. I have a Frederick Giddey, married to Maggie Bella Irving in Stroud NSW in 1915. Maggie died in 1976 in Gloucester NSW. I'm hoping that my Frederick and Maggie are Reginald's parents.

GIDDEY Reginald Samuel

DOB: 25 April, 1918 in Gloucester NSW and died 2004.

Father: Frederick GIDDEY

I need to try to find out Reginald's mother's name if possible.

Thank you

Margaret  :)

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Help with Birth/Bap.GIDDEY/GEDYE/GIDDY please
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 06:00 GMT (UK)  »
I’m having difficulty finding a birth or baptism for my great grandfather, Thomas (Tom) Giddey/Gedye/Giddy. I have estimated that he was born between 1856-1858 in St. Neot Cornwall, according to census/death certificate and ship’s passenger information.  His parents were William Giddey/Gedye/Giddy and Jane Caddy.  I have been unable to find a birth/bap. for his sister Millicent either, who was born c1860. Their brother, William, was born in Sept quarter, 1855 at St Neot Cornwall and baptized 20 Jan 1857 at Warleggan Cornwall England.

Tom Giddey died 28 Jan, 1915 in Newcastle NSW Australia aged 58 years.

Between 1861-1871, their father, William came to Australia, without his family. I have yet to find the date or the ship he travelled on.

In 1871 Thomas was employed as a servant in the Biddle household in Warleggan and sister Millicent was staying with her Aunt Mary Weary (nee Giddey) and family at Bodmin.

In Jan, 1875 Jane and the children, Thomas aged 17 and Millicent aged 14 arrived in Victoria Australia, unassisted passage on board the ship “Yorkshire’. They then sailed from Melbourne to Sydney on board the ship 'Alexandria' on 14 January 1875. Their brother William aged 19 also made the journey to Sydney in Dec 1874, aboard the ship ‘Samuel Plimsoll’ with his cousin John Coppin. Unfortunately their Dad, William died in May 1875 in Sydney.

I have gathered so much information regarding Great Granddad Tom, but would love to find a birth/bap for him also.

Thank you,

Margaret :)

Kilkenny / Which Roman Catholic Parishes please?
« on: Thursday 23 September 10 06:31 BST (UK)  »
I am now ready to research my Irish ancestors and require some help please, to get started.

After searching the http://www.rootsireland.ie/  site, I think I've found a marriage entry in 1853 for my 2x great grandparents, Patrick Quinn and Margaret Leonard.

Also, there are a few entries for possible baptism/births for them in 1815 and 1825 respectively, so before I outlay £5, per entry, I was wondering if anyone could tell me which Roman Catholic Parishes, St John and Coan  belong to please? (1815 – 1853).

I have conflicting information regarding the names of Patrick Quinn’s parents also, which makes it difficult to be sure of the correct entry.

I was wondering if anyone knows if the parent’s names of the bride and groom were recorded on the Marriage records pre civil registration?

I have also posted here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,479772.0.html

Thank you,

Margaret :)

Rutland Lookup Requests / Baptisms in Caldecott and Rockingham please.
« on: Thursday 09 September 10 07:36 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I’m trying to find a birth/baptism for Richard Viccars (Vicars/Viccers/Vickers/Vickary) born 1751 possibly Rutland (at least two of his children were born there) and died 1845. From his MI in Elton Church Huntingdonshire: died 6th May 1845 in his 94th year. Also baptisms/births for the children of Richard Viccars and Ann (I don’t know her surname or when/where they were married).

Jane Viccars  was born c1791 in Caldecott Rutland, according to the 1851 census. Her MI in Elton Hunts is inscribed: died February 25th 1860 in her 69th year. Her sister Rachel, was bp. 13 June 1784 in Rockingham Northamptonshire (enumerated as Rockingham Rutland in the 1851 census). Parents were recorded as Richard Vickary and Ann.

Mary Viccars born c1785 and died 13 May 1834 in Elton Hunts. MI: Died May 13th, 1834 in her 49th year.

James Viccars – nothing known about him except that he was a witness to Rachel’s marriage in 1819.

I hope I am not asking too much, but have only recently discovered this information with the help of some wonderful people and would love to know more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you,

Margaret :)
