Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA Testing
« on: Thursday 11 September 14 13:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Not posted on here for a while, I was wondering if anyone knows about resent DNA testing is it worth doing how accurate is it, has any one on here taken one?

If yes, would it prove if my father now deceased was the son of his parents? I have a few suspicions that he was his sisters child but passed as her mothers child........she was 18 when he was born and her mother 43 ....not unknown at 43 I know 😊 just she had no children that I know of between 1909 -1918 the last two boys born to her died in infancy, so no living child since 1906 making it a huge gap of 12 years! Don't know why she would want another baby after all this time and her age, so that's why I've suspicions that it was her 18year old daughters who went on to marry but had no children.

Thanks Liz

The Common Room / Close marriage's Brother and sister marrying brother and sister??
« on: Tuesday 22 February 11 12:57 GMT (UK)  »
Ellin Bolton was baptised at Melling on 5 April 1741, ‘daughter of Anthony Bolton of Melling, yeoman’. On
15 June 1761 Ellin married Henry Aspinwall (brother of her brother John’s wife Elizabeth) by banns at
Melling.

This is one of a few marriages I have found in my line were brothers and sisters marry brothers and sisters from same families now my question is whether their children who would be cousins would be allowed to marry? as they must have (i think) 100% the same genes...............not a ideal situation for the human gene pool?

I now know from previous discussions on here that cousins can marry and were indeed encouraged to do so.

My other question if  anyone knows is exactly who can't we marry?

The Common Room / Widower wih 5 children married my G Aunt can't find the 6th child
« on: Thursday 17 February 11 13:52 GMT (UK)  »
I'm going dizzy looking for the 6th child that the 1911 census records no birth or death...............any help would be appreciated :)

John Bradley born 1862   MAGHULL LANCASHIRE
Ann Bradley    -      1862 (Kirk)
Grace                 1888
Emma                 1890
John                    1892
Jessie                  1894
Nellie Kirk             1895

(the birth years maybe ayear earlier)       Ann dies 1895 QTR  J-S age 33
so that seems to be close to Nellie Kirk birth :(

John Bradley remarries my Great Aunt Alice Ledson who is 35 spinster and you see them on census 1901 with the 5 children and again on 1911 with 3 children still with them.

When I read the 1911 Original document it records 6 born 5 alive and 1 died, so I want to know who gave birth to the deceased child and when, was the child Ann's or Alice's???

The Common Room / Buriel of a 10month old baby
« on: Monday 14 February 11 19:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Anyone have idea's  please as to where they would bury a baby? My Grandparents had 2 children die very young, one was 1yr 11mths and I found him buried with his Grandmother but the younger one I can't find ,

Would they use an unmarked grave? and why not bury the 2 in the same place they died just 2 years a part,  although the baby of 10months died before the Grandmother so that grave didn't exist for him, still you would expect the 2 brothers to be together?

Puzzled

The Lighter Side / Always wondered - The Beatles
« on: Thursday 10 February 11 22:50 GMT (UK)  »
Just never know where this ancestry research is going to take you, my Great Aunt Olive was the Beatles secretary before they became famous, I always wondered how come? Except we lived in Liverpool  :P
Now I have discovered  another Great Aunt Married into the Harrison family and her husband's father was a George, now i'm side tracked trying to confirm if we are remotely related.Maybe thats how she got the position.

A long road to take and not even sure where to go!! or if I should go down that road  ;D

The Common Room / Why would they not show up on census 1851 and 1861
« on: Thursday 10 February 11 15:31 GMT (UK)  »
Anyone have an idea why my GG Grandparents and 2 children just vanish from the 1851 and 1861 census and then appear again 1871?

They are Samuel Ledson born 1821cc wife Sarah nee Ashcroft children Henry born 1847 Mary born 1849cc and maybe one other child Thomas. By 1871 Henry was deceased Mary Married name Harrison and Thomas can't be found ?

Samuel and Sarah married 1846 parish of Liverpool and appear in that surrounding area again 1871.

Any fresh ideas so welcome

Thanks Elizabeth

Graveyards and Gravestones / Gravestone replacing
« on: Saturday 04 December 10 13:11 GMT (UK)  »
Having recently visited my ancestors graves Iwas upset by the bad condition of them, does anyone know if it's possible to have them replaced? and who you need to get permission from? they are in a churchyard.

I did notice some had been replaced but only when a latter buriel had taken place and mine are all full so no chance to replace that way. :'(

Feel it's a shame that the inscriptions will be lost for future generations

Thanks Elizabeth
