Armed Forces / Royal Warwickshire Regiment 1880's
« on: Friday 23 August 19 16:58 BST (UK)  »
My Great-Grandfather James Brown was a Corporal in the 2nd Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment in the 1880's.  I am unable to find him anywhere on the 1881 census.  Does anybody know how the Army would register people for the census?

Also, can anybody point me in the direction of how to find any service records for this time?

Many thanks in advance.

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Relationship between Love - Armadio
« on: Sunday 01 February 15 12:13 GMT (UK)  »
Following some help the other day (see earlier thread) Annie Love was found on the 1901 census living in Castle Ashby with her aunt Anne Amadio who was 87/88.

I believe that in order for Anne Amadio to have been her aunt, the link must have been on the maternal (Morris) side.  Anne Morris (b 1813) married Fortunato Guiseppe Luigi Amadio.  Annie Love's mother was called Mary Ann Morris, but was not born until 1834.  Is it possible that these two were sisters and this is how Annie Love was Anne's niece?

I seem to have hit a brick wall  ???

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place, as I know it's not specifically a Lookup Request.

I'd be very grateful for any replies.

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Census 1881 - Love
« on: Sunday 01 February 15 12:03 GMT (UK)  »
Following the wonderful information received the other day in relation to the Love family - I now seem to have lost one again!  I believe the parents of the Annie Love I was looking for the other day (b Wellingborough 1877) were John Love (born in Moulton about 1828) and Mary Ann (nee Morris born in Ecton about 1834).

I can trace them both after their marriage in 1857 to Moulton in the 1861 and 1871 census and Wellingborough in both the 1891 and 1901 census.

I think Mary Ann was in Yeldon in the 1881 census with the younger children, but can't find John at all???  I think this Mary Ann may be the correct one as she was a laundry maid in an earlier census and is now a laundress.  No idea where her husband was though?

Can anybody shine some light?

Many thanks in advance.

Completed Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Census 1901 and 1911 - Love
« on: Thursday 29 January 15 07:38 GMT (UK)  »
I have received a lot of help from here in the past for which I'm very grateful, so I'll try another request.

There is a family story which I'm trying to get to the bottom of, truth or not.

In the 1891 Census there is an Annie Love (born Wellingborough approx. 1877) who is shown as being a servant at Castle Ashby.  The story is that she fell pregnant whilst unmarried and had a son called Charlie Love and they moved to Nottingham.

I have been unable to trace Annie on a census for either 1901 or 1911.  I'm not sure when Charles Love was born (apart from it was before 1914) or when she moved to Nottingham.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Many thanks.

Northamptonshire / John Plowman, b Wellingborough approx 1807
« on: Thursday 12 January 12 09:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Thanks to some interesting facts found by seahall yesterday, I have possibly found some more information on John Plowman, but as always, it raises more questions!

There is a John Plowman of about the right age shown as a patient in the Northampton General Infirmary.

As a more general question, where would I find out more information on this hospital in the 1800's?  Is the County Records Office a good place to start?

I am also interested in social history as well as specific individuals.

Many thanks for any assistance,

Alison

Northamptonshire / Assistance with the Plowmans of Wellingborough please!
« on: Tuesday 10 January 12 09:54 GMT (UK)  »
There seems to be so many of them!

I have a William Plowman born c 1835 who marries a Mary Elizabeth Setchell in Dec qtr 1862.

I can find them in Wellingborough in the 1871, but thereafer lose track of William.

Mary appears on her own in the 1881 census, so I assume that William has died before then.   Her last child (Edward) was born in 1876, so am I right in assuming that William must have died between 1876 and the 1881 census?

Many thanks,

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / James Taylor - how can I be sure?
« on: Monday 09 January 12 09:34 GMT (UK)  »
that I have the right one?

I have a 2nd great grandfather called James Taylor who married a Sarah Ann Woods in Leicester in the December qtr of 1857.  Their second child George was my great grandfather.

I can find him in the Leicester St Mary census of 1861 and 1871, but then lose track of him.  As he is not on the 1881 census with Sarah I assume he died within that ten year period.  As I have no other christian names for him, I'm not sure how I can verify his actual date of death.

I also have nothing to back up the marriage either.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Many thanks, ???

Family History Beginners Board / Help please! 'Lost' 2 people!
« on: Sunday 30 October 11 08:58 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm wondering if anybody can help.  I have two people on my family tree who I can trace so far, and then lose all track.  I'm hoping that somebody may be able to suggest where else I can look.

The first is Elsie Brown.  She was born approx 1892 in Northampton to parents James and Helen Brown (nee Southam).  She is showing on the 1911 census at aged 19 living at 7 Foundry Street, Northampton.  I can't find anything about her after this time.  Any ideas?  I appreciate that Brown is not one of the easiest names to trace.

Secondly Jersey Addington was born in Holcot, Northamptonshire in about 1866, and shows on the 1871 census as living in Holcot with his parents Richard and Mary Addington (nee Webb).  Unfortunately Richard murdered Mary in about April 1871 and was hanged in September 1871.  I'm still trying to find out more details about this - would a local newspaper be any use?

Jersey's elder brother George is shown on the 1881 census as living with his maternal grandmother in Towcester, but I have no information at all relating to Jersey.

Any ideas/tips gratefull received.

Many thanks,

Alison
