World War One / First World War

I have an uncle John Camplin who died in WW1 he was born in 1894 in  Lincolnshire.  I have been on the CWGC site and found a record that could belong to him  but there is no date of birth or age but it does give a service number and battalion; is there anyway I can actually trace back and prove that this is him?

Thanks for reading!

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / EDWIN BARNARD 1901
« on: Thursday 12 May 05 20:32 BST (UK)  »
In the 1891 census Edwin (aged 36) was living in Ely, Cambridgeshire as 'Head' of the family his father had died and he was living with his mother and assorted relations.  I have been able to track the rest of the family in the 1901 census in various locations but can find no mention of Edwin.  From my research it would seem that up to  1889 he never married and I can find no mention of his death.

Can someone give me any clues as to where I can look next?

Thanks for reading!

« on: Monday 25 April 05 22:33 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to  look at the 1871 census for Alfred Barnard.  His father, mother and rest of the family are in the 1871 census in Ely, Cambridgeshire but there is no mention of Alfred he was born about 1850 in Cambridgeshire - I would be grateful for any information.

Many thanks

Hi

Could someone please look up the barnard family in the above census - I feel sure that the family had one son Alfred Edgar Barnard (Ggrandfather) born in 1849/50 but would appreciate any further information on the rest of the family members at that time.

Thanks for reading this post!

Wales / ALFRED THOMAS BARNARD
« on: Wednesday 30 March 05 13:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I can find the above relation in the 1891 census in Ruskington, Lincolnshire aged 14.  There does not appear to be a mention of him in the 1901 census  - however another member of RootsChat informed me that they found an Alfred Thomas Barnard had married in 1901 in Merthyr Tydfil.  Can anyone help by giving any further information?  The Alfred Thomas I am looking for was born in Cambridge in approximately 1877.

Thanks for taking time out to read this post.

Alfred is in the 1891 census with the rest of his family living in Ruskington, Lincolnshire aged 14.  I can find the rest of the family in the 1901 census in Helpringham but there is no mention at all of Alfred anywhere.  Can anone give me advice on my next step to trace him?

Many thanks for taking the time to read!

Armed Forces / MIDDLESEX REGIMENT - 1880's
« on: Monday 28 March 05 21:13 BST (UK)  »
My GGrandfather Alfred Barnard is down in the 1881 Census as working in Guernsey in the St Peter Port hospital his occupation is: Nurse Discharged Army No Pension.  In the 1891 census he was in Lincolnshire working as a Railway Signalman.

He was born in Cambridge and I believe but am not 100% sure that he was in the Middlesex Regiment.  Can anyone give me any idea of why he should have ended up in Geurnsey or where I can find the information? I have been on several Middlesex Regimental sites but cannot find them anywhere near Guernsey.

Alderney, Guernsey, Jersey, Sark / CHARLES WILLIAM BARNARD
« on: Friday 25 March 05 18:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hello! this is my first time on RootsChat so you will have to forgive me if I make mistakes.  I am researching my husband's family.  I have found out his Grandfather Charles William Barnard was born on Guernsey in 1882.  In the 1891 census Charles is back in Ruskington, Sleaford.

I found my husband's Great Grandfather, ALFRED BARNARD, in the 1881 Census he was working in the St. Peter Port hospital and his occupation is: "Hospital Nurse Discharged Soldier No Pension".  I can find no information on the rest of the family being in Guernsey at this time.

I would be grateful for any information on the birth of Charles William.
