Dunbartonshire / Hilltoune in New Kilpatrick.
« on: Thursday 31 August 17 03:40 BST (UK)  »
The name Hilltoune or Hilltoun is mentioned in birth records of some members of the Peter Family in early 1700's.  I don't know if it refers to a farm or a town.  I note there is a Hilton, which might be a spelling variation.  I would be grateful for any information. thank you.

Westmeath / John Peter
« on: Friday 25 August 17 08:37 BST (UK)  »
Hullo all. I am seeking information concerning John Peter who married Ann Peter in the Parish of New or East Kilpatrick in 1761.  Based on a dearth of any earlier data relating to New Kilpatrick I suspect he may have moved to the area from elsewhere.  The nearby parish of Mains seems to have been a centre where many Peter and Peeter families resided however, while potential parents can found there, I am unable to come to any reliable conclusion.  I would be grateful if there is anyone who can help me with John Peter's ancestry.

Does anyone have any information concerning Sir William St Leger who lived at Gravesend in 1912?  I think his wife was known as Fanny.  I am researching the name Pascoe and believe that William or Fanny have a Pascoe connection.  Many thanks, Cec

In 1941 JA Collins, Cobinabbin, Victoria,  wrote in the Argus Newspaper that his mother, Margaret Crawford Speirs,  was  born at Boort, Victoria in 1853.  However, my records indicate that Margaret married Lewis John Warren and, as she married just once, I am puzzled as to who JA Collins is.  Margaret's daughter married a cousin by name of Collins and I wonder if JA Collins was a product of this marriage and was referring to his grandmother.  Help, please?

Ayrshire / Dalry, Ayr
« on: Saturday 26 February 11 11:19 GMT (UK)  »
Seeking solutions to the following questions relative to Dalry, Ayr:
1.  Does anyone know the origin of the term 'Speirs Corner', which I believe refers to the corner of New and Aitken Sts in Dalry?
2.  I have a number of OPR birth records  that mention 'Glen in Dalry' as a birth location.  Does anyone know exactly where this is?

many thanks

Ayrshire / Robert Speir of Dalry, Ayrshire
« on: Saturday 25 December 10 09:28 GMT (UK)  »
I hope everyone is enjoying a good Xmas.
I am seeking information about the birth and parents of Robert Speir who purchased Camphill Farm, Dalry in 1741.  Robert married Jean Broun in 1724.  Robert was a /the brother of James speir, merchant in Glasgow.  James married Rebecca Thomson and died in 1741.  I have data concerning James' marriage and children.  Just prior to his death James wrote to Robert, addressing the letter to 'Robert Speir, Weaver in Dalry'.  I cannot find  where either was born - was it Dalry with James moving on to Glasgow to become a successful businessman and Robert staying home?  Was it the other way around with Robert leaving Glasgow to go Dalry? Or, neither of these?
All assistance gratefully received.

« on: Wednesday 22 December 10 11:03 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for the parents of Agnes Malcolm (nee Armstrong) as well as her birth place.  Agnes was married to William Malcolm, lived in West Kilbride and died in 1877.  Her sister, Jane Armstrong, married John Speirs of Dalry, Ayrshire and migrated to Australia in 1848.
