Library and FHS Lookups / The Belfast Newsletter - look up please
« on: Friday 02 February 24 04:54 GMT (UK)  »
I'm hoping someone could look up the "The Belfast Newsletter" for Monday Morning, 8th August 1859.

I've seen a copy on Ancestry but cannot read most of it as it's too smudged.

DEATH 27 Apr 1859 for Rachel Watson... [at Collingwood, Melbourne]

Many thanks.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1921 West Ham, Essex - Check lookup please
« on: Friday 18 November 22 23:02 GMT (UK)  »
I've searched the index on findmypast and at West Ham, Essex I've found:

Ethel Annie Green    1883   Commercial Road, London, England
Irene G E Green       1912   London, England
Stanley B Green       1915   London, England
Rowland H Green      1917  London, England
Doris V Green          1920  London, England
but I'd like to see if husband George Henry was with them. He was born 1887 Bow, London.

There is also a George Henry Green    1890   born West Ham, Essex, England on the index but I don't think he's my George.

Would really appreciate it someone could just say 'yea or nay' please.

Thanks

Libby

Australia Resources & Offers / OFFER: McCarthy's Cemetery, Castlereagh, NSW
« on: Saturday 02 November 19 23:42 GMT (UK)  »
The oldest Catholic burial ground in NSW, McCarthy’s Cemetery is not associated with a church building, but has evolved from a private burial ground to a consecrated cemetery. In 1806, a time when Catholicism was not officially recognised in the colony, ex-convict settlers James and Mary McCarthy buried their daughter Elizabeth at the southern end of their Cranebrook property. The land was consecrated in the 1830s, and became a cemetery for many Catholics in the Castlereagh community.

The cemetery is currently under control of Penrith Lakes Development Corporation, and is open at 10am on the 1st Saturday of the month by arrangement.

I went there yesterday, and was given details of the headstone inscriptions. I also took photos.

Other Countries / SINGAPORE: BDM records - searchable??
« on: Wednesday 15 May 19 07:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

Does anyone know if there is a way to "search" BDM records for Singapore?

I've had a look at the https://eservices.ica.gov.sg site, where you can request an extract for a birth or death (if you know the date or period) but can't find anything about marriages.

An acquaintance wants to search for grandparents and GGPs. Circa early 1900s.

Thank you

Europe / ITALY - Sicily - Birth records required.
« on: Wednesday 24 April 19 09:45 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

I have search FamilySearch images and found two birth records (1886 and 1893) from their 'Decade Index' for 1886-1895, however, they only have images for the actual records for 1896-1902.

So, I was wondering if anyone knows where the other images are or if someone in Italy (or better still, Sicily) be able to get their hands on them.

The details are:
Acireale, Catania Providence, Sicily, Italy
Giuseppe SORBELLO No. 161 (born 3 Feb 1886)
Salvatore SORBELLO No. 23 (born 2 Jan 1893)

Their date of birth comes from their naturalisation records in Australia.

Thanks.

Renfrewshire / Obit Request - Eric Hawkswell Briggs SHARP D:1994
« on: Friday 31 August 18 13:32 BST (UK)  »
I was hoping someone in Renfrew might have access to 1994 newspapers to look for an obit for Eric Hawkswell Briggs SHARP.

He was born in Sept 1910 and was 83 when he died, so I'm guessing he died between Jan-Sept 1994. Sorry I can't be more specific. I'm hoping a local library might have an index.

I live in Australia, so ordering a cert for £12 is plan B.

SP Ref is 643/213 Renfrew (would 213 indicate that he died earlier in the year?)

TIA.

Australia / Bathurst Cemetery - COMPLETED
« on: Friday 15 July 16 01:03 BST (UK)  »
Hello all,

Is anyone able to advise the gave location details?

I want to go to Bathurst Cemetery (Robin Hill) to take photos of family headstones but to make it easier I'd like to know the location of them (section, row, grave) beforehand so I'm not wandering up and down rows for hours.

All GOLD people (about 14 of them) and Owen FITZPATRICK d1941 (all in Catholic section).

I've emailed Bathurst Council but they haven't replied. Apparently the local family history society have all the details & have a CD available for sale but I can't afford the cost and don't have time to visit them to view it (even if I could).

Many thanks
