United States of America / Patrick Doyle & Julia Doyle (nee Kavanagh)
« on: Monday 27 December 21 17:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Looking for some assistance/guidance in tracking down my Great Grand aunt Julia (Johanna) Doyle (nee Kavanagh).

Julia Kavanagh was born on the 17 Jan 1840 in Rathpierce, Ballyfad, Co. Wexford, Ireland. Parents are Patrick Kavanagh & Mary Kilbride. Julia’s siblings are Patrick, Margaret, Bridget, James (My Great Grandfather), Thomas and Ellen. Ellen and husband Walter Lawless also emigrated to the USA arriving in New York on the 19 Nov 1869, and settling in Kankakee, Illinois.

Julia married Patrick Doyle of Island, Craanford, Co. Wexford, Ireland on the 26 Jan 1869 in Craanford Catholic Church. Julia & Patrick emigrated to the USA from Liverpool on board the ship ERIN, Manifest ID No. 00031085 arriving in New York on the 15th Mar 1869.  Afraid that is where the trail dries up.

I have searched through the US Census 1870, 1880, 1890 & 1900 to no avail  :'(

Can anyone see them anywhere or suggest where else I might look. I wondered if they might have made their way to Canada :-\

Any help will be gratefully received. :)
Many thanks in advance.

I am trying to track down the family of Michael Joseph O’Loughlin who were resident in Camolin Village, until the mid 1930’s.

Michael J. was the Radio Officer and hero of sea disaster as he went down on the S.S. Vestris on the 12 Nov 1928. Newspaper reports state that Mr. O’Loughlin was able to carry on communicating for three hours on his main installation, and then to continue communication with his emergency set until the ship was abandoned. He remained in his cabin sending messages while the ship went down.

Michael’s father also Michael was born in 1861 in Galway. After leaving school he joined the Royal Irish Constabulary (R.I.C). On the 25th Feb 1887 he married Frances Mary Meagher, born on 2nd Mar 1871 in Eglish, Parsonstown and daughter of Joseph Meagher and Sarah McDermot, of Parsonstown, Birr, Co. Offaly. Together they had six children, Michael Joseph b 1899, Bernard b1900, Francis b 1901, John b1904, Dermot b1906 and Mary Bridget 1908. All six children attended Camolin N.S.. Michael retired on pension in 1909, and shortly afterwards was appointed Sub-postmaster in Camolin

From the 1901 Census of Ireland the O’Loughlin family were residents of House No. 2 Knockbaun (Coolgreany). The head of the house is Michael an R.I.C. Constable aged 38 from Galway. He was married to Frances from Offaly aged 30.  Present also were two sons Michael Joseph. aged 2 and Bernard aged 1; also present is Domestic Servant, Mary Whelan aged 13.

By 1911, the O’Loughlins were now living in Camolin, the census shows them living at No. 11 Camolin Town, and occupation listed as ‘Sub-Postmaster’ They have six children, Michael J, 12; Bernard 11; Francis 9; John 6; Dermot 5 and Mary B. 2..

The O’Loughlins remained as Postmaster in Camolin into the Mid 1930’s and on their retirement moved to Dublin. Frances O’Loughling died on 31st Aug 1943 in 28 Mountshannon Rd, Rialto; Dublin aged 72, and was interred in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Arklow with her mother Sarah Meagher. Michael died on 1st Jan 1945 at 28 Mountshannon Rd., aged 84 and is also interred in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Arklow. Mary Bridget O’Loughlin is listed as present at the death of both her Parents.

Michael Joseph’s brother Bernard joined the Garda Siochana and at the time of his marriage he was stationed at Phoenix Park. He married Charlott Cahill born Nenagh, Co. Tipperary), on 20th Nov 1934 in the Church of the Holy Family, Aughrim St. Dublin.

There is an O’Loughlin memorial in St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Arklow, bearing the following inscription

“In loving memory of Sarah Meagher who died at Coolgreany, 4th June 1905 aged 66 years R.I.P. Erected by her daughter Frances O’Loughlin.

Also Michael Joseph O’Loughlin, Chief Radio Officer S.S. Vestris who lost his life at sea 12th November 1928, in his 30th year. May he rest in peace.

On the base: The above named Frances O’Loughlin died 31st Aug. 1943, also her husband Michael O’Loughlin who died 1st January 1945.”

Any information welcome

Regards

Looking for any leads/information on my Grand Uncle Patrick Kavanagh born 14th Feb 1869, Burton Hall, Sandyford, Dublin. He lived with his family at Bolinrush, Newtownbarry (now known as Bunclody) Co. Wexford. His parents are James Kavanagh, Rathpierce and Catherine Kavanagh, Aughnamaulmeen.

Family lore has it that Patrick moved to Liverpool about 1900 +/- 3 years. He was supposedly married and had at least one child.

Family lore also has it that Patrick and a colleague were struck by lightning during a thunder storm, killing his colleague and that Patrick lost the use of an arm/hand as a result.

Does any of this ring any bells?

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / House No Longer Exists
« on: Thursday 09 May 13 19:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I would be very grateful if somebody could restore this picture for me. This photograph appeared in a local newspaper back in 1932 so is very poor quality. This house which is an Estate House was later burned to the ground and no photographs exist. So would be grateful if someone can work their magic on this….

Cheers John G.

I am looking for descendants of my great grand uncle James Kavanagh who was born in Aughnamaulmeen (north county Wexford) abt 1842.  When he was 23 years of age he and a brother John moved to Dublin and joined the Dublin Metropolitan Police (DMP)force.

James married Ellen Cullen at St. Andrews R.C. Church on the 13 Sep 1874 and had the following children: Catherine Anne Apr 1876; Mary Ellen Nov 1977; Margaret Aug 1880; Mary (again) 1882, and possibly two sons (unconfirmed) Thomas 1972 and Michael 1876. Location of births is given as 24 Townsend St.

I have very little on James’s children except for Mary who married Henry Napier (b 1877). And it appears that this union had three children; Henry James b 1905; Mary Kathleen b 1909 and Eileen. Birth place for each, 6 Ranalagh Road. The following attachment gives a clearer overview….

If any of this looks familiar, would be delighted to hear from you!! :)

Kindest
John G.
