Anglesey / Evan and Ellen Thomas of Chauntry House, Beaumaris, Anglesey
« on: Saturday 06 February 21 13:51 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to find information for my husband on both of his great, great grandparents and the property they lived at in Beaumaris. He is made to believe his Great, great grandfather, on his mother's side was a Captain in the navy. Their daughter, Catherine, his mum's mum married,  he thinks in Liverpool  and her married name was Mattson before she remarried an Axel Pederson  from Finland. In relation to the property, Chauntry House is on the sea front of Beaumaris, just off Castle Street / rd. Any information from the Anglesey census for 1871 to 1881 would be very helpful.

England / Dewhurst the butchers and Vestey brothers around 1911.
« on: Friday 28 March 14 12:54 GMT (UK)  »
My nan's brother James Norman Baines moved from Liverpool to London around 1911.
My nan always talked about him being high up within Dewhursts. I note that the Vestey brothers took
Dewhurst's over.
Any suggestions /ideas how I could find out what position with in the organisation he had?

England / Middle names and their meanings
« on: Friday 28 March 14 12:39 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching my nan's family tree. She was one of 6children. Her mother's maiden surname was either McVitie or Vetere( the data on screen was not clear,so had to guess which one) but no mention of the names highlighted below.
3 of her siblings have middle names that seem to be more of a surname.
Of these 3, two of them have the same middle name. Neither of their parents had middle names.
The first sibling is Mary ACTON Baines and then there is Thomas ACTON Baines, with the third child Harold KNOWLES Baines. They where all born in the Everton area of Liverpool from1884 to 1894. Other siblings have what I would call ordinary middle names of Norman, Agnes, with the sixth no middle name.
The ACTON name has been given to both male and female. This seems to be a possible previous family name? So could the same be said for KNOWLES?
Any suggestions ???

My grandfather Evan Roberts was one of 8 brothers. His oldest Brother Robert John Roberts died 25.6.1938 aged 59. His address being Angorfa, Cesarea. From past research he was the last surviving member of the family. However, after posting my latest enquiry about a cousin of my grandfather, Who reported Robert John's death, there appears to have been obituary on Robert John's death. A name of Morris Roberts appears giving his address  as Angorfa. Could anybody check the Electorial registrar for this address to see if any other name, additional to Robert John appears, as I was made to believe there wasn't.
Thanking you for any help on this matter,

Caernarvonshire / Roberts from Gorlan Wen Upper Llandwrog
« on: Friday 14 March 14 15:37 GMT (UK)  »
Following on from research on my Grand father Evan Roberts formerly from Bryn Y Foel  Y Fron ( formerly known as Cesarea) I have come across another relative of my grandfather a cousin Rowland (Rowlant) Owen who in 1938 reported the death of my grand father's oldest brother Robert John Roberts. Rowland's address then was 3 Emyri Terrace, Cesarea. On the 1911 census then aged 16 he is registered as residing as a boarder at Gorlan Wen, Upper Llandwrog. The other residents were John D Roberts, his wife Margaret, two sons Daniel J 14, John 6, and daughter Cathrian J 8.
If anybody has any information as to location of Gorian Wen or any info on anybody listed would be great fully accepted.

P.S. just checked BDM and I think Rowland passed away in1968 aged 73.this age would tie up with his age from the 1911 census

Caernarvonshire / Pembroke House - Penygroes
« on: Saturday 23 June 12 11:50 BST (UK)  »
Following on with the Owen family from Hen Gapel I have been given information on William William Owen my grandfathers cousin. He died in action in the 1st World War and there is information on him on a web site called findagrave.com.
From this site I've noticed that a photo of William was added by a George Evans, who is he and what connection if any is he to the Owen family.
But I've also been given William's wife name of Asneth Owen living at Pembroke House Penygroes.
Does anybody have any information on this location or George Evans.

Caernarvonshire / Owen family Hengapel Cesarea 1903
« on: Friday 22 June 12 18:53 BST (UK)  »
William W Owen of Hengapel Cesarea ( Y Fron) was the informant of one of my grandfather's brothers in 1903. The certificate states he was a cousin to my grandfather Evan Roberts from Bron Y Foel. I am very interested in any information anybody might have on either or both about the Owen family or Hengapel. This posting will have a connection to an earlier posting on a Rowland Owen. We're these two men brothers?

Caernarvonshire / Owen family of Eryri terrace Y Fron
« on: Friday 22 June 12 18:29 BST (UK)  »
Does Rowland Owen of 3 Eryri Terrace Y Fron mean anything to anyone.

From the records I have on my grandfather Evan Roberts one of his brothers death certificate states  a cousin Rowland Owen reported the death. From the research I've done so far does not cover this surname. It is possible that it might be on grandfather's mother side of Williams from Rhyd Ddu,Beddgelert.
The death certificate is dated 1938. On checking the BDM I can find a birth for a Rowland Owen in 1895. This would make him aged 43. Any info gratefully accepted.
