Berkshire / Faringdon Workhouse Records
« on: Sunday 04 April 21 21:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I have been looking for some information about an ancestor, James Sutton (1845-1874) who was admitted to Faringdon Union Workhouse I believe sometime after 1865, after a stint in the postal service. I was wondering does anyone know how/where I can access the admission records for this time or any records of his time there. Thank you in advance.

Do you know where I can find more information about this, registration records etc?
Thanks in advance

Family History Beginners Board / William Williams
« on: Thursday 25 October 12 06:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I am trying to trace where my partners great grandfather, William Williams, came from. I believe it to be in the UK but no idea where. This is what I know:-
He was born in 1828
He had a first wife Elizabeth who was born in 1831 (don't know where)
They both have come and lived in Adelaide, South Australia where Elizabeth dies age 56 on 20 Dec 1887 and is buried in North Road Cemetery, Adelaide.
William then marries another Elizabeth (Harris) on 27 November 1888. They have 3 children Elizabeth Jane (1889) Arthur (1891) and William Francis (1893) the following year William Williams (the father) dies on 23 July 1894 in Goodwood, Adelaide. Wife Elizabeth (Harris) dies in 1993. All 3 are buried together in North Road Cemetery (I have  photo to prove this).
I aslo have Williams death certificate in which his occupation states farmer.
I also have his marriage certificate to Elizabeth Harris in which his occupation states 'gentleman'. He is 60 yrs old and Elizabeth is 29 at the date of marriage. His writing seems to be exceptionally good  ( a poor man signs with a X) far nicer than Elizabeths.
He may have had a brother Henry. He may even have been born in South Australia. His father was also William Williams.
It is a long shot but if anyone can help or throw any light. I have spent hours on William and he is my loose link that I may never find. I have trawled passenger lists, newspapers and am happy of anyone can help
Thanks
Julie
