Australia / Mystery find
« on: Saturday 30 July 11 07:07 BST (UK)  »
Amoungst my grandparents belongings years ago I found a silver star ( called a jewel ) which was awarded to someone named Cotter.
As to my knowledge there is no Cotter in my family tree, so who is this mystery recipient ?

The engraving on the star reads;

Presented
as a token of respect
for past services
To P.G.T.Y. Cotter
by the brothers of the
Apollo and Hercules Lodge
of the ancient
independant order of
Odd Fellows
Morphett st. Adelaide
St Australia
Decr. 31st 1851

According to the Adelaide chapter of the Order of Odd Fellows they were not established until the 1870's and this star belongs to / came from the Manchester branch ( a Manchester Unity item IOOF ).

Any help identifing this person and finding a posible link would be appreciated.

« on: Sunday 15 May 11 01:22 BST (UK)  »
Charles Oakland was born 1867, Highgate, Middlesex, England and died 22 Oct. 1929, Armstrong, British Columbia, Canada. Not sure when he moved there.
He married a Margaret Waterhouse 1886.
They had three children that we know of, Edith b. 1888, William Frederick b. 1889 and Florence 1891 - 1892.
We would like to know who they married ect.
The only surnames we have to go on come from an old family address book they are; Henri and Trevisol and possibly Bird, Fox and Rosser.

Looking for any family links in Canada, surnames as well as Oakland could include, Bird, Fox, Rosser, Henri and Bailey.
Family members who emigrated to Canada were Charlotte, Louisa, and Charles, possibly in the late 1800's - early 1900's.

Australia / KEMPSON. Thanks
« on: Wednesday 27 April 11 01:42 BST (UK)  »
Thanks to all who tried to help with my search for answers as to the where abouts of Henry Kempson snr.
It seems that Henry Charles is the wrong one, but Ellen Yuille could be connected.
Most of my info was passed down to me by my grand parents and further info came from the Police Historical Society of Adelaide and the Tea Tree Gully Library (local history section), the library has in it's collection a book titled "A Policemans Lot Is Not A Happy One, The Kempson's of Nottingham and Tea Tree Gully". A photo amongst this collection of notes is also own by my family and I have a copy.

For the moment Henry's where abouts, possible remarriage and death will remain a mystery, maybe some day a Kempson will look into thier family history and have better luck.
There are a lot of Kempson's in Vic. and I found one who had something to do with Pharlap.

Not giving up.
