Lancashire / Information on Charles Collier bap. 1774 Manchester Cathedral
« on: Friday 14 February 20 05:32 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for information on Charles Collier bap. 16 October 1774 in Manchester Cathedral, parents Abraham and Mary Collier. A trade directory in 1800 lists Charles living with his parents in Red Bank, occupation hatter. However, I have no other information on Charles - marriage, children, or later life.

The 1841 census lists a Chas Collier living in Stockport, but I'm stumped as to whether this is Charles bap. 1774.

Any help would be most welcome.

Thank you

James

Leicestershire / Descendants of Lord Charles Arthur Clough Collier or Victor J Collier
« on: Wednesday 20 November 19 06:26 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to make contact with any descendants of Lord Charles Arthur Clough Collier or Victor John Collier, both born in Leicester in 1916 and 1918 respectively.

My purpose is to obtain information on the hat-making business run by the Collier family in Leicester in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The business was started ca. 1803 by Charles Collier.

I'd be very grateful for anyone's help.

World War One / Decipher WW1 medal roll book
« on: Thursday 13 February 14 00:19 GMT (UK)  »
I'd appreciate some help understanding the attached medal roll book.

My grandfather is Leslie G. Collier number 305955, the last entry on the page.

I'm keen to know where he served. The page has four columns titled "Theatres of war in which served".  My grandfather has a O in the first column and a tick in the third column.

Does this give useful information on where he might have served?

Any help is appreciated.

Leicestershire / COLLIER - hattters of Leicester
« on: Sunday 23 December 12 10:38 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for any records relating to the hat-making Collier family of Leicester. Four generations of the family were hatters over a period from around 1809 to at least 1914.  The shop and factory were in Gallowtree Gate.

The business was started by Charles Collier, continued by his son Charles John Collier (or Charles Jnr) then by Benjamin John Collier and then by Charles Albert Collier.

Any information would be helpful, particularly where I might find a photo of the shop.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Glossop birth record for Charles COLLIER b1777
« on: Sunday 15 July 12 13:15 BST (UK)  »
I am seeking the birthplace of Charles COLLIER b1777 and have a hunch he may have been born in Glossop.

I would be very grateful if anyone has parish or other records which could help.

In 1801 Charles married Hannah Cockayne (b 1777 Duffield, Derbyshire) in Leicester. They had two children: Charles b1803 and James William b1809.

In 1834, James William was baptised in Glossop.

I hope someone can assist.

I would be grateful for any Leicester newspaper notices about the death of CHARLES COLLIER.

He died on July 25, 1850 in Leicester, having been a hat manufacturer in Gallowtree Gate, Leicester. In 1801, he married Hannah Cockayne and they had two children.

I have searched the British Newspaper Archive for a death notice without success.

Help very much appreciated.

I am seeking information about Charles Collier of Leicester, specifically a marriage record from St Martin's Leicester.

Does anyone have access to St Martin's parish records?

Charles Collier married Hannah Cockayne on 15 October 1801 in St Martin's. I am looking to establish where Charles and Hannah were born.

Charles was born either in 1777 or 1781, possibly in Leicester. Hannah was probably born in 1781, possibly in Leicester.

Any help would be much appreciated.
