Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Face-Matching help please *COMPLETED*
« on: Monday 07 November 11 14:56 GMT (UK)  »
The below photos feature a man that I have been researching, William Hannegan.  He is identified in the first photo by name as the man holding the baseball bat.  I would appreciate some opinions as to which man he is in the second photograph of the baseball team, as none of the men there are identified by name.

I am aware that the photo quality is very poor, but cannot offer anything better.  The photos were found in an old 1922 newsletter that someone had uploaded online.  I printed them out and scanned them, and so the quality has remained essentially as-is.  If anyone can work magic to sharpen them, then I would of course appreciate it.

Armed Forces / U.S. Navy Photo- Please help date
« on: Friday 28 October 11 21:39 BST (UK)  »
Please offer some suggestions as to the approximate date of this photo.  My working assumption is that this is a relative of mine who was born about 1873 and died in 1918, and therefore I am guessing that the photo dates to the 1890s or early 1900s.  It could of course be older (i.e., his father's generation) or closer to WWI (e.g., in the event it is his brother or a brother-in-law that lived longer than him).

This should be the photgraph of a man in the U.S. Navy, but I am unsure of his rank.  I have been unsuccessful so far in reading the wording on the hat, but I think that this indicates the name of the ship aboard which the man served.

This photo was originally a very tiny picture in a 1908 newspaper article that i found online.  I printed it out, and scanned it with the text cropped out.  I would appreciate any effort to adjust the light/dark shading so as to make the facial features of the people more defined (especially the man and his wife).   The man is my great-great uncle, and this is the only photo of him that I currently know to exist.  Thanks in advance!

Please help to restore this photo.  I'm mainly looking for a b&w image, but would also be curious to see what it looks like with some colour.  My plan is to post a restored version on the military board for help dating it, but until then if anyone here has any ideas as to a date I'd appreciate hearing them.  I think that this is a man who was born in the early 1870s and died in 1918, and so my working assumption is that the image dates to the 1890s timeframe.  It could be one of his brothers who lived longer though, or even someone from his father’s generation.

I'd be especially appreciative if anything can be done restoration-wise to make the words on the hat more readable (or at least some of the letters).  It should be the name of the ship on which the man served in the US Navy.

Note:  I received this photo at the tail end of a long list of forwarded emails.  The original owner seems to have scanned it at 150dpi.  I included this as the second photo here in case someone can work with it.  The first photo that you see is my print-out and re-scan of the picture at 300dpi.

Please add some colour to the below photo.  I'm also trying to determine an approximate date for it.  Thank you.

Please help clean-up this photo as there appear to be waterspots on it.  I'd also appreciate seeing it with some colour.  Thank you.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Face-Matching Question? *COMPLETED*
« on: Monday 24 October 11 00:46 BST (UK)  »
I have a few photos that I am looking to get some feedback on regarding face-matching and/or possible relationship.  Is this the proper forum for these types of posts, and if not, then can someone please advise if there is one on this site suitable for posting them?  I read through some stickies on this and the Handwriting board but did not notice any guidance regarding this type of query.  Thank you.

Please help me to determine an approximate date for this photo.  I suspect that it is from the child's First Holy Communion ceremony in the Catholic Church.  The woman was born in 1888.

Please help me to determine an approximate date for these photos.  I do not yet have any ideas who the people are, but I suspect that the older woman is the mother's mother or even grandmother.  The photos seem to be a couple of years apart.
