Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Marriage name extra (can't decipher)
« on: Monday 13 June 22 19:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I was just looking back at an old marriage entry I had saved and realised there was a couple of extra words after the bride's name (image hopefully attached).   It didn't mention that she was widowed but maybe a link back to a previous surname or perhaps a Latin phrase hinting to something interesting!?

Any suggestions appreciated.

World War One / George Holden - army records
« on: Saturday 28 November 20 20:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I'm a member of quite a few sites but can't seem to find the army records of my great uncle George Holden.  I've found a medal card and one site mentioning he was a prisoner of war but not the 'normal' service records you often find.   In case its me being rubbish at searching or they are somewhere else then maybe someone can do a little better than me.

I know his army number was 11263, born c.1889, he was at some point a Corporal and was in the 12th King Royal Rifles at some point.

Any help or guidance appreciated.

Thanks

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / London marriage licence help
« on: Thursday 09 August 18 21:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I've found a St. Marylebone marriage for William Scott & Elizabeth Richardson - 6th May 1798.  It says marriage by licence but I've tried a couple of databases and had no luck finding it.  Does anyone have better eyes than me?

Thanks.

Armed Forces / William Pollard 1817, soldier
« on: Sunday 18 September 16 14:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I found an 1817 baptism record at Marylebone, London which lists father William Pollard as a soldier.  This is quite a distance from where my William Pollard was from (Derbyshire) but it seems like a good match in terms of the child being baptised and being a soldier would open up travel options.   I tried to find some war records that might relate to this William but couldn't find anything so wondering if the wider pool of searchers here could do better than me?

Thanks.

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / Sarah Wetton - Newhaven
« on: Sunday 13 September 15 21:03 BST (UK)  »
On the 1851 my ancestor Sarah Roberts (nee Wetton) gave her place of birth as "Newhaven, Derbyshire".  She would have been baptised about 1783.  There doesn't seem to be church for this place and I wonder where the baptism might have been.  Any tips or successful searches appreciated.

Thanks

Armed Forces / William Pollard c.1817
« on: Tuesday 10 February 15 21:54 GMT (UK)  »
I found a baptism, which although quite a distance away from where my family was in Derbyshire gives father's occupation as soldier which could explain the distance but as yet I haven't found any service records for William Pollard.

Edward Pollard baptised 26-Nov-1817    Marylebone, London     - Parents William & Mary

Any help appreciated.

Armed Forces / John Gascoyne 1770s
« on: Saturday 07 February 15 23:30 GMT (UK)  »
Maybe it is too early to find any service records but recently I found a Derbyshire settlement examination for John Gascoyne from 1776 (he was 36 at this time).  Part of his work history included the remark "....2nd Division Marines, after discharge from Portsmouth....".  I tried searching the records on Findmypast but with no luck.   ???

US Lookup Requests / Radford family
« on: Tuesday 03 February 15 00:10 GMT (UK)  »
Happy new year to you all.

I'm looking for passenger info of the following English family to the US between 1841 and 1851.

Charles & Mary Radford (born circa 1806) and their 3 daughters Anne (c.1828), Mary (c.1831) and Sophia (c.1833).

There is a theory that Mary Snr died before they travelled but I cannot find any good records to support that so maybe she travelled separately, maybe died on the way but would be interesting to see if there are any records out there.

Thanks.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Plumtree churchyard lookup (photo request)
« on: Friday 28 February 14 21:34 GMT (UK)  »
According to the site - http://www.carruthers-solutions.co.uk/Plumtree_interactive_churchyard.html - there are a few "Hubbard" family gravestones very close to the church that would be interested in getting a photo of but unfortunately don't expect to have chance to be able to do myself in the near future.  If anyone is likely to be out for a walk on a nice day with a camera then I love to be able to see what they actually look like.
