Hi to all you great restoration members, I'm back again!

I have 2 photos, the wedding photo taken approx. 3 or 4 years prior (maybe) but certainly no longer than 4 as the young woman in the couple photo died in 1942 age 22 and the wedding photo was taken in 1937.  I don't know what happened to the couple photo but I obtained it in this condition, so wonder if anyone can make anything of it at all.  This may or may not be a help, but the reason I have posted the wedding pic is because the lady in the couple photo is one of the bridesmaids in the wedding photo I'm just not sure which one it was.  This lady was my Aunt and as I never knew or saw her I have no idea what she looked like.  The bride is also my Aunt but they were only half sisters so they didn't obviously look alike.
In the wedding photo, my grandparents are one side with a young darkish haired bridesmaid, who I thought was my Aunt.  On the other side is the groom's mother.  Standing next to the grooms mother is my young pageboy Uncle and standing next to him is the blonde haired bridesmaid who a relative has said is our Aunt not the other one.  I have no idea at all which is which, as in my Dad's family there were 3 dark haired and 3 blondish, so that's not a lot to go on.

The couple photo I am now wondering, is this the same person/bridesmaid we see standing next to the pageboy and the same man from the couple photo standing between her and the bride??  Would the groom be standing next to the bride or behind the bride as I have no idea what the groom looked like as he also died before I was born and I have no other photos.

Any ideas and feedback appreciated as would any restoration can be made if at all.

Many thanks in advance.

The Common Room / Meaning of jargon in will.
« on: Tuesday 29 March 16 17:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I wonder if anyone out there has any knowledge of the legal jargon in a will.  I obtained a will of a person who made same 11 years prior to dying in 1971.
He had been married 3 times, had 5 children to his 1st wife who died young, married the 2nd and had one son to her and she then died and then 4 years later married his 3rd wife.
His last son became ill in his teens and although he worked for approx. 25 years he had to give up because of ill health. His last son was approx 18 when his father died but  still lived with them.
This man and his wife and son moved to a bigger house approx 7 years before he died so the property stated on the will is different to that of the property he actually died in.  All his other children were much older and married with families of their own.
This is part of the will:
I appoint my wife ......  .... to be the Executrix and Trustee of this my will and she also to be the guardian of my son ....   ..... during his minorit.  I direct her to pay all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses.  I appoint my Trustee to be a Trustee for the purposes of the Settled Land Acts.  I Give and Devise to my Trustee my house and premises; ........ in the City of ...... for my son .... ..... and I declare that the Devise shall not vest absolutely in my said son until he attains the age of twenty one years.  If he shall pre-decease me or die under the age of twenty one years this Devise shall fall into and form part of my Residuary Estate.  I give my Trustee full power of sale and any money liable to investment which might accrue whether by way of income arising out of the said premises or capital representing proceeds of sale thereof and income thereon may be invested in or upon or applied in the purchase of any investment security or property of any kind, (whether producing income or not) approved by my Trustee, and may, pending investment be placed on Deposit or current acct at any Bank or with any company incorporated with limited liability.  I authorize my Trustee to apply any part of the presumptive or vested share of my said son in the said Trust property under this my will for his advancement in the world.

At this point he goes on to leave his other children their legacies of money.

Then:  As to all the rest residue and remainder of my property of every kind and description and wheresoever situated of or to which I may die seised or possessed or entitled to or over which I may have any power of appointment I give Devise and bequeath same to my wife ....   ..... absolutely.

Now, my question is this:  The wife dies about 20 years later and her stepson is still living with her, the son referred to in the will.  They are living in the property his father died in but not the property mentioned in the will.  The stepmother has made a will bequeathing the house and everything in it to her 3 nieces but that her stepson can live in the property until his death.

The testators son is still alive now and wishes to know legally where he stands in regard to the will of his father as he was of the understanding that after his stepmother died he would inherit the property, is this correct?  Does anyone have any legal knowledge on this at all?

Just to add to this, the wife of the deceased had to go to a solicitors to swear or something of that nature, told to me by the stepson as he went with her,  that there was no will left by her husband and yet I managed to find this one! She told all his children that their father had not made a will and they were told by the stepmother they could have just £? each, a very very small amount.

We did go to a solicitor for advice after finding this will but he claimed this only surviving son (the stepson of his wife who was to be looked after her in the will) has no claim or rights to the property he still lives in to this day.

Any help appreciated.
Many thanks

US Completed Requests / Mary E Blake Probate
« on: Tuesday 22 March 16 14:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I wondered if anyone has any access to probate records from 1943 in Manhattan.

The above named died  17th Jan 1943, I don't have a last address for her but she died in Manhattan.  She was 63 years old and was born 17th March 1879 in Cork.  She is buried in Gate of Heaven cemetery.  Her parents were Edmund Blake and Mary O'Neil born and died in Ireland.  I have found Mary on the 1920 and the 1930 cns' working as an assistant sister to Head of Home for the Aged Little Sisters of the Poor which was in Brooklyn at that time.  I can't seem to find her after that on the 1940 cns but did find a Mary Blake as a patient in the Welfare Hospital, Welfare Island born 1879 age 61 but dont' know if this was her or not.  Mary never married.

I know Mary left a legacy at least to one sister Margaret Ann Reardon nee Blake, who was living in New South Wales Australia, and also possible Elizabeth Cole nee Blake who was also living in New York or around that area, I can't find Elizabeth Cole either after 1930 cns.  I know this to be fact as I have the probate record or Margaret Reardon who says she was left legacy by her sister
Mary E Blake living in New York, Margaret died 1 year later than Mary.  The sister Elizabeth Cole apparently died in 1965 but I can't find her death either, this is from other members of family confirming this.

Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

United States of America / James Blake
« on: Wednesday 16 March 16 13:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I've been researching James Blake, my ancestor.
He was born c1839 in Crooha, Adrigole, Cork.  He was referred to in a letter to a cousin many many years ago, as 'James decided to go to Chicago when it was up and coming area and looking for teachers/workers etc.  James married a lady from Illinois and he moved to Virginia, Illinois and opened a private school there.'
I have no idea what year this would have been but presume maybe around mid to late 1800's.
There is a lady named Mary mentioned in the letter who I presume from my research would be his married sister Mary, who 'always kept a photo of James on her dresser.  I have found no trace of James or proof of his marriage.  There are several James Blake but I can't find for sure the correct one.
Is there anyone knows of any Blakes in the area of Virginia who could be descendants or knows anything of the James Blake above?
Many thanks in advance

Australia / John Edward Blake
« on: Wednesday 16 March 16 09:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I am trying to find if the above named had a will when he died.  I have emailed the probate court in NSW and they tell me they have done a quick search for him but they can't find a probate will for him.  So this would mean he died intestate, but they sent me a link to another gov party, to see if they have details or maybe he made a will but it wasn't granted etc and they sent me a 10 page form to fill in, its very confusing so wondered if anyone has an idea how to go about checking this out.
John Edward Blake was born March 1881 in Adrigole, Cork, Ireland and was called over to Gundagai, Gilmore, NSW by his aunt in c1908 when her husband died and for John to work the farm she owned.
John inherited the farm when his aunt died in 1935.  John died in 1951 age 72 of a heart attack I am told.  I do know that his brother William still living in Cork was receiving some kind of payments from either John's estates or from an administrator of his estate but these payments ceased (I believe) just before William died in 1955.
My question is what were the payments for and from whom after John Edward Blake died.  I know that John lived with a Julia Blake who was about 10 years his senior and was was his cousin (Julia's father was the stepbrother of the aunt of John), so really Julia was John's half cousin??
Julia survived John but died in Dec 1953.  There is a probate for Julia but I haven't yet ordered that.  Julia's siblings died after her.  Julia had one sister named Ellen who married Mr Begg and had 3 daughters.  Ellen died in 1971.
This is all the more confusing as I found that Julia's father John Galway Blake died in 1880 age 55 in Gundagai, and the will was, it says, granted in 1881, but then it states (DBN granted Sept 1974) which is nearly 100 years after John Galway Blake's death.  His wife Ellen died in 1920 in Gundagai.
John Galway Blake's grandson Edward John (not to be confused with John Edward) who outlived all the family bar his sister, died in 1973 and his probate was granted in Aug 1974, the same year as his grandfather's (is this a coincidence?).  Edward John's sister Theresa Blake died in 1983 but can't find out where, she never married.  I cant find a probate for her either.
So can anyone tell me where/who I enquire to to find out if John Edward Blake died intestate and also why the above 2 probates were granted in same year when deaths were nearly 100 years apart.
Many thanks in advance.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Rastrick/Raistrick William and Henry
« on: Thursday 01 May 14 11:22 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help me in regard to who was living where between 1851 and 1861.  My gg grandfather William Rastrick was born approx 1809 in Baildon it states on 1841/51/61, living with his wife Grace and family.  He was living at 52 Wapping Road Bradford on the 1851, then on 1861 was living at 32 Ebenezer Street Bradford.  I have been trying to find his birth parents for a long time now without success.  He married Grace Laycock in 1827 and had 9 children.  His first born Benjamin.
I have found several children born in Baildon for around this time but no William, with father of Benjamin, it may be his father isn't named Benjamin though.  I then found a death in Bradford observer of a Henry Rastrick of 34 Ebenezer St, died on 0/6/1856 age 43 a woolcomber, informant ws Jane Rastrick of same address but doesnt' state relationship.  I found a marriage of a Ann Jane Binns (widow) in 1852 henry was bachelor.  I found a birth for Henry in 1813 in Baildon and on marriage states his father as Benjamin.  I wondered if this henry was the brother of my William born in Baildon as William moved to 32 Ebenezer St, from Wapping road sometime between 1851 and 1861.  This is a long shot but I wondered who lived at these addresses between those years.

Also, there is another query, I can find Henry Raistrick on 1841 born 1816 residing in Bradford West End age 25 and again on 1851 born Baildon age 36 named as brother in law.  I found these on Familysearch. Now I can't find this on ancestry though but do know it is on find my past but don't have subs for them so can't see who he is living with on both cns'.  Can anyone tell me who he was with please.
Regards
Catherine
