Hello
I was hoping someone had access to the records of St Thomas Dudley and could find the name of Thomas's father on the marriage cert.
According to FamilySearch Thomas Jones married Elizabeth Harrison 14th February 1875 at St Thomas Dudley.

Thank you in advance  :)

Hello
I've recently completed a Family Tree DNA test using their 'Family Finder.' In my matches there is one where we have 63 shared centimorgans with a 42 long block at chromosome 5-this has placed the match as 2-4 cousin range.

The 42 block is by far the longest block I have. I have been able to find a ancestor link with a match where we shared 74 centimorgans with the longest block of 18 so 42 seems quite significant. unfortunately there is no family tree to compare and she would only give a few surnames via email. One of my grandfathers and a great grandmother was illegitimate so this could be an link.

Is it worth contacting her further with the illegitimate lines in mind or is a block of 42 not as impressive as I first thought?!

Thanks for reading my rambles  :)

Staffordshire / Where is Edwin/Edward Stokes in 1861?
« on: Thursday 11 February 16 19:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
Can anyone find Edwin/Edward Stokes in 1861 census?

Edwin was born C1808 in West Bromwich to Job and Ann Stokes and he married Ann Walters in 1831. I can find Edwin/Edward in 1841 and 1851 censuses living in Wolverhampton (1841) and West Bromwich (1851) with Ann and various children.

Edwin also seems to use Edward for some documentation including those of his children's baptisms but I have bought various birth certs which establish that Edwin and Ann Stokes are also Edward and Ann Stokes even with discrepancies in information.

I originally thought that Edwin was dead by 1861 as there is no obvious sign of him, and three of his unmarried children are living together without either parent. However I have found a marriage in 1856 which seems to refute this. An Edwin Stokes (widower) born C1808 marries Ann Woolley in Bilston St Leonards-Edwin's father is given as Job. I haven't been able to find another Edwin Stokes whose father was named Job born C1808 (although that doesn't mean he doesn't exist!)

Edwin's son Levi marries in Wednesbury in 1863 (father named as Edward) and the two witnesses are Woolleys.
I have found the death of an Edwin Stokes born C1808 in Kings Norton District in 1866 and a corresponding burial at Christ Church West Bromwich (place of death given as Smethwick- which fits in with Kings Norton area.) I have looked in the 1861 census for this Edwin Stokes (wide ranging age and no birth place) but no luck.

I have tried searching Edwin and Edward with/without wife Ann, birthplace, age and surname but I can't find him.

Any help gratefully received  :)

Thank you Karen

Staffordshire / Moses Turley born 1850 Sedgley
« on: Sunday 08 November 15 17:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I'm trying to find out where Moses Turley (born C1850, Sedgley) is in the 1861 and 1871 censuses.

In 1851 Moses is living with parents Richard and Sarah (nee Light) in Sedgley. His mother is dead by 1852 when Richard remarries Mary Webb.

In 1861 Richard and Mary are living with their children but Moses is not there. Richard and Mary have a son called Richard in 1856.

No sign of Moses in 1871

In Feb 1880 Moses marries Elizabeth Mitton at St Peters Walsall-he is now calling himself Moses Richard Turley
In the 1881 census Moses calls himself Richard Moses Turley
In subsequent census returns he drops Moses completely.
I believe he dies in 1922 and is registered as Richard Turley.

Any help to find Moses/Richard Turley in 1861 and 1871 greatly appreciated.

Hello

I'm hoping to find the marriage of  Caroline Amelia Burton (born 1854 Portsea Hampshire) and Christian Frank Hansen (born Belgium C1857) in the Maldon area in 1877. After 1881 I can find no clear sighting of the family until their deaths in Surrey.

Thanks in advance for your help  :)

Staffordshire / Betsey Taylor born 1850 Wolverhampton-where is she after 1851?
« on: Wednesday 30 September 15 00:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi, Can anyone help me find this family?
In Oct 1849 Ann Purcell married miner James Taylor at St John's Wolverhampton. I know nothing more about James other than he was of full age when married and his father was called Emanuel (deceased)
In the 1851 census Ann is living with her Purcell parents in Canal Street and has a daughter Betsey (born 1850 and baptised at St Peter's Wolverhampton)James Taylor is not with his family.
It seems, although I can't be certain, Ann and James had the following children who were all baptised in Wolverhampton:
Emily bap 1853, Mary Ann bap 1858, Edward Emanuel bap 1858  and James bap 1861. According to their baptisms all these children apart from James were living in Canal Street, Baby James was living in Warwick Street.
From records at Merridale Cemetery I was able to find the deaths of Edward Emanuel in 1859, Ann in 1861 and baby James in 1861.
I can't find obvious deaths for father James or daughters Betsey, Emily or Mary Ann-any help to find this family would be greatly appreciated.

Hello
Looking to find what happened to Thomas and Ann Walters after 1850?

Thomas Walters was born in 1825 to Ann and Francis Walters. according to his baptism at St Bartholomews Wednesbury he was from West Bromwich. Ann Walters was born in 1829 to Ann and Francis and her baptism also shows family living in West Bromwich.

When their father died their mother married Edward/Edwin Stokes and they can all be found together in the 1841 census of Wolverhampton.

On 17 Jun 1848 at All Saints West Bromwich Thomas married Betsey Perkins (born C1827) I can't find any sign of them from that time on.

On 12 Jun 1848 at All Saints West Bromwich Ann Walters married James Robinson but James died before 1850 because Ann then married William Jones (born C1825) in Sedgley in 1850 (date unknown) I can't locate Ann from that time on.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Karen
