London and Middlesex / Need help finding Ggrandfather Harold Hammond b about 1905.
« on: Wednesday 07 November 12 17:20 GMT (UK)  »
I have a copy of my G grandfather and G grandmothers marriage.  From this I have been able to trace my G grandmothers family on the census'.  However, I am struggling to find my G grandfather.

The info I have is the following:

Harold Hammond m Sarah Hawkins 25 Dec 1924.
Both were 19.
Harolds father - Harold Hammond, Carman, Deceased.
They were married in Fitzroy Sq W1 and both lived in the Camden area (NW1).

One of the witnesses was F Hammond - possibly my G grandfathers mother/brother/sister?

Can anyone else see my G grandfather/GG grandfather on the census?

Thanks

Suffolk / Wass family Stoke by Nayland Suffolk
« on: Monday 05 November 12 13:45 GMT (UK)  »
My GG Grandfather Henry Wass was born in Stoke by Nayland, Suffolk in 1844.  In 1861 he was a potman and in 1881 he was a beer keeper (both in London).

Whilst researching I came accross George Wass a licensed victualler around the same time in a very well known pub in London (The Archway Tavern) that is still open for business today.  George Wass was also from Stoke by Nayland, Suffolk (although born some 20 years earlier).

Does anyone know how popular the surname Wass was in Suffolk around this time so I can determine if it is worthwhile searching for a connection between the two.

Thanks.

London and Middlesex / Harriet Winkworth - Marylebone
« on: Saturday 31 December 11 11:02 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for more info on Harriet Winkworth.

Harriet was born on the 26th December 1830 (I believe in Marylebone workhouse).  I know her mother was Harriet Stroud and her father was Thomas Winkworth (unmarried).

Harriet went on to have a child with Thomas Clift (who sometimes appears in the census' as 'Cliff').  Their child was also called Thomas.  I have found both Thomas Clift snr and jnr in various census', but can find no more info for Harriet.  Thomas Clift appears in the 1861 census with his son Thomas and a wife 'Ann'.

I suppose that 'Ann' could Harriet using a different name (although their years of birth do not match), or possibly Harriet died?

Any help would be appreciated.

Tipperary / Shea / Cody Carrick On Suir Tipp - MORE INFO
« on: Monday 15 August 11 17:46 BST (UK)  »
Have obtained the marriage certificate of my g grandfather James O'Shea (Shea on his birth certificate) and g grandmother Annie O'Shea nee O'Shea (who also appears as Shea on 1901 census).  They were married in St Nicoholas Church Carrick On Suir Tipperary on the 14th Feb 1915.

From this I managed to get Annie's birth certificate and now have her mothers maiden name; Mary 'Cody'.

Am a bit at a loss how to go back any further.  I have Annies parents estimated ages from the 1901 and 1911 census' and know that her father was Michael Shea and her mother Mary Shea nee Cody.  I am presuming that Annie's parents marriage cert would be a good start, but having difficulty finding it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Somerset Lookup Requests / James O'SHEA / Patrick O'SHEA - need help
« on: Thursday 17 February 11 18:22 GMT (UK)  »
I haven't rally got alot of info to go out on..

Looking for a James O'Shea, he would have been born in Ireland but ended his life in Somerset.  James was born sometime around 1919 and would have died at some point in the 60's(ish).

He had a son called Patrick (Paddy) O'Shea (I'm assuming born in Somerset), Patrick died within 2 or years of his father in somerset.

Any suggestions on the best way to start with this, or even better, does this ring any bells with anyone?

Tipperary / O'Shea - Carrick On Suir - More Info
« on: Saturday 12 February 11 12:23 GMT (UK)  »
My grt grandfather James Shea (on his bith certificate, later used the name O'Shea) was born 1891, Carrick on Suir Tipperary in the workhouse.
His mother was listed as Ellen Shea, no father.

From talking to family members we seem to think he had one brother - Garrigan.
I can find no info on the name Garrigan O'Shea (or any record of anyone even having the name Garrigan).  Does anyone know if this was an Irish name of the time?

James had a son, Michael O'Shea born 1919 Carrick on Suir, Ballyrichard Road.
His mother was Annie Shea.

Family members seem to think James and Annie also had two other sons, James and Patrick.
I have no info on these.

Lasly, from James' military records I can ascertain that Annie was living on Ballyrichard Road at the time of their marriage (1915) to the time Michael O'Shea was born (1919).  Ellen (his mother) was living, what looks like Garryrue or Garysue Carrick on Suir.  Does anyone recognise this as a place in Carrcik?
