Tipperary / Motens of Roscrea
« on: Sunday 01 May 11 11:50 BST (UK)  »
Hello there,
As it stands from independent research and a scribbled family tree by my Grandmother, I have found this ancestral line of the Motens in Roscrea:

James Moten -M.- Eliza Letson                                             Great Great Great Great Grandparents
                    |
                    ˇ
Jack Letson Moten -M.- ?                                                                 Great Great Great Grandparents
                    |
                    ˇ
John "Jack" Moten (Bn. 1877) -M.- Elizabeth Henderson (Bn. 1884)
[appears as Morton on 1911 census]                                                     Great  Great Grandparents
                    |
                    ˇ
Margret "Dolly" Moten (Bn. 1907) -M.- Joseph Murphy (Bn. 1906)                Great Grandparents

We know that "Jack" Moten (GG-Grandfather) lived on Bunkers Hill and was the first Butcher at Roscrea Meat Products.

Any help would be much appreciated

Kildare / Bodenstown March - 1957
« on: Sunday 10 April 11 16:19 BST (UK)  »
I have a photograph of my Grandfather at the Wolfe Tone Commemoration at Bodenstown in 1957, as part of the Roscrea branch of Sinn Fein.

I'm wondering whether there is: any further information on the speakers, more photos or any additional information on that particular year, I'm aware that it had a larger turnout following the death of Sean South and Fergal O'Hanlon. Any information would be very much appreciated.

Roscommon / Mordachy "Mardy" O'Connor of Yambo, Mantua in War of Independence
« on: Wednesday 09 March 11 14:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I have been researching my relatives from Roscommon, my Great Grandfather was Mordachy "Mardy" O'Connor (sometimes noted as Murtagh,  Muireadach) he fought with the 2nd Batt. North Roscommon, Mantua Unit of the Irish Republican Army, he was the Adjuant of "A"Company (1919-1921) and the Company Intelligence Officer (1921-1923).
He is listed in the excellent book 'They Put the Flag A-Flying' as Martin Connor - I have since been in contact with the author who has provided superb documents which have provided me with all this information.

I was wondering whether anyone local or a local historian could provide any further information on him or his family? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank-you for your time.

I know little of the heritage of my Grandfather Dennis (born 1922) he died in 1980 leaving no record of his past. Knowing only his fathers name and the area of his birth i found on the censuses his parents (Edward and Bridget) and his paternal grandmother (Ellen).
Their addresses according to the cenuses are as follows:

1901: -    Ellen Dwyer (Edward’s Mother) – House 43 in Bewley Street (New    Ross Urban, Wexford)

Edward and Bridget Dwyer – House 50 in File 2 Shannon Hill    (Enniscorthy Rural, Wexford)

1911: -   Edward and Bridget Dwyer – House 50 in St. John's Street    (Enniscorthy Urban, Wexford)

any further help would be much appreciated...
