Surrey / allans and chrystalls wimbledon
« on: Saturday 26 January 13 16:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I have discovered a relative who had a very interesting life in India. His name was Andrew Chrystall and when he returned to England he was living at 7 dudley road Wimbledon with his sister mary Allan and grandson alister chrystall Allan. mary had been married to Alexander Ogston Allan who died 1934

There were also 2 grandaughters - Isabel Allan who married a Charles Shilling in 1935 and Janet Allan who married Douglas Thompson in 1934.

Isabel died in 1998 and alister in 1988 at Gravesend, kent. I dont know about Janet.

I would dearly love to find any living relatives of these people.
If anyone recognises any of these names perhaps they could help?

Andrew died 1937 in Cyprus

Thanks

Moray (Elginshire) / Rafford womens rural institute
« on: Saturday 26 January 13 14:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

my great grandmothers cousin set up the rafford womens rural institute trust in order to benefit the children of rafford school. His name was Andrew Chrystall.
Does anyone know if this organisation is still going?

I would be keen to know if there are any references to Andrew Chrystall. he went to assam in india where he was a tea planter and a major in the Assam Valley light Horse unit. he died in 1937 in cyprus. His wishes in his will were that his ashes be scattered in the Altyre burn at sourriepool above the second or higher sourriepool bridge on the Altyre High drive, or, failing this, in the river Findhorn from the findhorn bridge.

He was born in 1867 and was the son of Andrew chrystall who was head gardener on the Altyre estate.

Would love a photo of him, if any survive

Hi, hope someone can help with this. a great great etc uncle  Andrew Chrystall, lived in salana, Assam and on his WW1 medal card he is listed as a Major in 69 (Gaxo) Ind L.C corps. I have looked this up online and cannot find anything as to what the 69 Gaxo is. Does the LC stand for Labour Corps?

There is no army number given either.

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / amluckie tea plantation
« on: Thursday 13 December 12 16:51 GMT (UK)  »
my great grandmothers cousin Andrew Chrystall, born about 1867 in scotland at some point went to Assam, India where he was on the amluckie tea plantation. His father had shares in this company. I am about to send for his will which was resealed in singapore but proved in london.

Andrew died in 1937 in Famagusta, Cyprus. I would love to find out more, so sending for his will is a starting point. If it was resealed in Singapore can i access it from the usual place i.e york probate (or leeds I think it is now)

Also, I have googled the amluckie tea company but havent had much luck except for a link to the amluckie investment company so any info anyone may have would be really helpful.

Andrew did return to England as in 1937 his address was in Wimbledon.

A task for the christmas period I think

hi,
my great granny was a teacher at dudleston heath school I think sometime in the 20's or 30's.
Her name was lillie weston and I was wondering if there is a local history group in Dudleston itself or someone who may remember their parents being taught by her?

I would love to find a photo of her with her class.

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / scottish marriage lookup
« on: Friday 06 April 12 17:01 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I wonder if anyone is able to look for a marriage in Scotland please.
The persons involved are Jessie Sutherland Rogers and Andrew Finnie. The marriage took place between 1891 and 1897.
I cannot be sure it occured in scotland but it is the only place left. I have tried elsewhere including at sea and overseas and have turned up nothing.
 Thanks

Travelling People / cornelius, georgina and Abigail smith
« on: Friday 13 January 12 13:19 GMT (UK)  »
hi, I have just been tidying up and filing my family history and wondered iof anyone is researching Cornelius Smith and his family who were in the Oswestry, Shropshire area in the early 1920's?

My great grandfather ran a pub at the Llawnt, nr oswestry and in 1921 during what appears to be a very drunken gambling session, a Lady called Abigail Smith, wife of Henry Smith was shot in the arm allegedly by my great grandfather as he attempted to restore order!!

also mentioned are Georgina and cornelius smith.

If anyone is interested I can send you the account.,
