Scotland / family name/meaning of

  Hello,
     Trying to find out about the family name BOWMAN..my ancestors came from Scotland .I would also like to know if it is a Scottish name and what does it mean.
  Sometimes the obvious is not always correct.

Ayrshire / trace my relatives

  I am an old Australian trying to find out about my ancestors , My grandfather, David Bowman,born at Catine,Ayrshire,14th. October 1899..
    His father..David Murray Bowman
    His mother..Annie Scott
  Both born in Ayrshire
  mother died in 1909(Scotland)
  father died 1947(possibly in Sydney Australia??)
  I will appreciate any assistance anyone can give me, or put me on the right path.
