Australia / AHERN entering Australia 1860’s?

Where did Terence Ahern enter Australia in the 1860’s?
Just started work on my maternal line and branched off to look at my great grand uncle Terence Ahern. He was born 1847 Cork Ireland, married Gympie 1870, died Brisbane 1904. Almost everything I was told about him here in Ireland was correct and has, after research, slotted neatly into position. However, one BIG question remains outstanding. Family lore (Ireland) is that he went to Australia as a teenager. His obituary states he arrived in 1863, which fits. However, I cannot find the date of arrival in Australia in any of the online records. Would it be unusual for someone to slip through the cracks? Am I missing something?
(FWIW, the family continues through his daughters, who married Hocking, Vallely, McLoughlin.)
