Armed Forces / 2Lt N Y LLOYD - 2nd Bn Northumberland Fusiliers
« on: Saturday 10 June 06 08:57 BST (UK)  »
I've had in my possession for a number of years an infantry officers pattern sword made by Wilkinson which they confirm was sold to 2Lt N Y Lloyd of the 2nd Bn Northumberland Fusiliers on 12th January 1900.

I've drawn a blank in finding him at the Regimental Museum and he isn't listed on the CWGC database.

Are any posters able to either provide information on 2Lt Lloyd or give me some pointers as to where to continue my search.

Yours aye
Paul

Occupation Interests / Railway Engine Driver
« on: Tuesday 02 May 06 16:03 BST (UK)  »
One of my ancestors is recorded in the 1871 England Census as being a railway engine driver and living in the Nechells area of Aston, Birmingham.

Would any poster know of which railway compnay he is likely to be working for and also whether there are any readily accessible railway employee records either at the PRO or online.

Many thanks
Paul

Occupation Interests / What was a "Boot maker - clicker"
« on: Tuesday 02 May 06 15:59 BST (UK)  »
Good afternoon posters

Many of my ancestors were in the shoe making business & I wondered if anyone could enlighten me as to what exactly a "Boot maker - clicker" would do & where his skills would be utilized in the manufacture of a pair of boots.

Thanks in anticipation

Armed Forces / Did Your Ancestors Serve in the Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars?
« on: Sunday 08 January 06 21:05 GMT (UK)  »
The Oxfordshire Yeomanry Trust (Registered Charity 106827) have just launched their web site at http://members.lycos.co.uk/oxfyeo/ to promote the activities of the Trust and the Oxfordshire Yeomanry Association.

In addition the web site contains highlights from the history of the Oxfordshire Yeomanry (Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars) and details of its antecedent unit, 5 (QOOH) Signal Squadron.

In order to build on its archives, the Trust is keen to hear from anyone whose ancestors served in the Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars (Oxfordshire Yeomanry), particularly the during the Boer War (40th & 59th Companies of the Imperial Yeomanry), The Great War and WW2.

We would also be keen to hear from anyone wishing to donate artefacts or photographs to the Trust to form part of their mobile museum exhibition.

Please contact the Trust via the web site or via my Rootschat account

Shropshire / Joseph WENLOCK
« on: Friday 28 October 05 13:46 BST (UK)  »
Good morning researchers,

I appreciate this is a long shot, but I've just identified a family branch in Shropshire & wondered if anyone was researching the WENLOCK's from Hengoed & Ellesmere.

I'm interesting in tracing any links to the family of Joseph WENLOCK, listed on the 1861 census as being aged 57, born in Ellesmere, Shropshire.

The family members in 1861 are:
Elizabeth (wife, aged 57, born Overton, Flintshire)
Edward (son, aged 34, born Overton, Flintshire)
William (son, aged 21, born Overton, Flintshire) and
Ann (daughter, aged 15, born Overton, Flintshire).

Thanks in anticipation

Paul
