Hello, I cannot find Mark Tomlinson Gregory on the 1901 census. Other people have tried as well, without success.

He was born in Sheffield 1895. so he would have been 5 or 6 when the census was taken.

I don't know the identity of his parents, but I think they could be this pair
from freebmd
Marriages Dec 1896
Gregory William Sheffield 9c 726
Tomlinson Rose Ann Sheffield 9c 726

Can anybody help?

This is my brick wall at the moment

cheers Robert.

Northamptonshire / Bellairs from Peterborough
« on: Sunday 22 June 08 17:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everybody,

I am interested in Arthur Horace Bellairs, because his name appears on a war memorial in a chapel near Sheffield. He was killed in action, 1917.

I have tried, without success to trace his parents marriage. I believe they are John and Louisa Bellairs. John was a farmer. To lose two sons must have been terrible.

Does Louisa's second name begin with a J or an I - I'm not sure.

I also think his brother died whilst on war service, with the Navy. His name was George Victor Bellairs.

The chapel is in a farming area, so I assume Arthur Horace bellairs moved to Sheffield in search of work on one of the local farms. He enlisted in Sheffield, so he must have been in the area at the time of the war.

If anybody can help me I'd appreciate it. Any information gratefully received.

Regards

Robert.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Clifford Collinson, a Great War Mystery
« on: Thursday 27 March 08 21:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I am trying to identify Clifford Collinson, who worked for the Sheffield Gas Company and appears on their WW1 war memorial to the men who gave their lives.

The CWGC only has one candidate, but he is from New Zealand.

I think its possible Clifford Collinson may have died at home from an illness and the CWGC didn't recognise him as a casualty because he had already been discharged. His employers however, included his name on the memorial, which I have come across before on other memorials.

Thats my theory anyway.

There is a Clifford Collinson born in Sheffield 1888, who died aged 30 in 1918, Sheffield.

Could this be the man I'm looking for ?

Any help at all on this one would be appreciated.

Regards

 :) Robert  :)
