Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Enoch HAMPTON death 1915 - lookup request
« on: Tuesday 27 March 12 20:51 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone be able to look up a death certificate at Sandwell archives please:

Enoch HAMPTON born Woodsetton 1841 died 1915 (I think). Parents Joseph HAMPTON  and Elizabeth PARKES. I have seen on FreeBMD a death for an Enoch Hampton registered at Dudley in 1915 and I am hoping this is the right year for my Enoch.

I am not sure what information would be on a death certificate at that time but hope it will give me something more to go on. His wife was Mary Ann ?? - I have not been able to find a marriage for them and do not know her surname yet.

Thank you in anticipation.

Staffordshire / Where is Princes End? (Tipton area?)
« on: Tuesday 09 May 06 20:57 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone would be able to tell me where Princes End is.

I have a marriage certificate for a George Percival and Mary Ann Hampton on 4th March 1888.

George was resident at Princes End at the time of the marriage and Mary Ann was at 3 Church Lane.

The marriage was at St Martin's Church, Tipton

Was Princes End a road or street or was it an area of Tipton?

On the 1891 census George is listed as being born at Princes End so I am thinking it is a place rather than a street/road name but any suggestions would be welcome.

Many thanks

I am looking for details of a marriage registered in Wolverhampton in Dec 1862 between:

Enoch Hampton (born 1841) and Ann Stokes (possibly born 1841)

I have Enoch Hampton in my tree and in different censuses he is shown as having Mary Ann, Mary or Ann as his wife.  I am hoping that this marriage record will sort this out for me as I don't know his wife's maiden name as yet.

All other details about Enoch have been centred around Coseley, Tipton and Woolstanton areas.  Is Wolverhampton far from there?

I also don't have any definite death details for Enoch either - if anyone could help with that I would be very grateful.

Many thanks

US Lookup Requests / Birth record/census Long Island City, New York
« on: Friday 13 January 06 10:24 GMT (UK)  »
My grandmother was born in Long Island City, New York in 1896. Her parents went to USA from Germany some time before 1873 as they married in Manhattan in that year.

I would appreciate any help from anyone who could find any records relating to my grandmother's birth, that of her siblings or census records.

My grandmother - Augusta Catharina Diehl
Born 17 Feb 1896 Long Island City, New York
Died 11 Apr 1986 Hamburg, Germany

Her brother - Wilhelm Henry Diehl
Born 15 May 1892 in Brooklyn, New York

She also had some sisters Anna, Helene and Tilly (Possibly Mathilda) who I think were older than her but I have no other details.

Parents were:

Wilhelm Johann Heinrich Diehl
Born 11 Jun 1852 in Lehrbach, Germany
Died 26 May 1927 in Hamburg, Germany

Anna Katharina Steuernagel
Born 01 Feb 1854 in Eifa, Germany
Died 29 May 1934 in Hamburg, Germany.

I have Wilhelm and Anna's marriage certificate from 20 Jul 1873 (Manhattan).

I don't know when they arrived in USA and which route they took, or exactly when they returned to Germany - some time in the early 1900's as my grandmother was only a small child.

Apparently Wilhelm Johann Heinrich (I don't know which name he would use) ran a restaurant but in which district I have no idea.

Any help at all with this would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

United States of America / Wrigley - from Saddleworth to USA
« on: Thursday 12 January 06 16:38 GMT (UK)  »
I have come across this on-line genealogy book on the Wrigley family from Saddleworth who emigrated to USA in early 1800's

http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/cgi-bin/docviewer.exe?CISOROOT=/FamHist36&CISOPTR=19043&CISOSHOW=18556

I hope it is of interest to anyone researching their Wrigley line.

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / War Memorial in Shipley
« on: Tuesday 08 November 05 19:08 GMT (UK)  »
Could anyone tell me if there is a war memorial in Shipley, West Yorkshire?
If so, are there any transcriptions online at all?

I am looking for Thomas Garner who was killed in WWII and lived in Shipley.  He was only 18 years old when he was killed in the last weeks of the war.

Thank you

Would anyone have access to MI's for City Road Cemetery, Sheffield and could look up a couple of names please?

I am looking for John Robert Garbutt born 1902 died 1955 in Sheffield.  He lived at Heeley but is not in the church cemetery at Heeley.
His wife, May, may be buried with him. She was born c1898 but I don't know when she died.

Any birth dates for these 2 would be fantastic but any other information would be much appreciated

Many thanks

Would anyone be kind enough to look up the birth/baptism details of John Robert GARBUTT,  born June quarter 1902 Eccleshall Bierlow District.
He was married in 1922 at St Paul's Church, Norton Lees and there is a Garbutt family in Norton Lees in 1901 so I am presuming he would have been baptised at St Paul's.

A witness on his marriage certificate is Rosie Garbutt but I don't know if she was a sister, aunt or sister-in-law.

The main person I am searching details for is his wife May Jewel (Jewell) - she was my grandmother's sister and I can't find any details of where they were born.  My aunt says they were born London but which district she doesn't know.  Their father is named as William Jewell, a publican on their marriage certificates but he was deceased by then and there are literally hundreds of William Jewells to look at!!

I have a birth certificate for an Ethel Jewell (my grandmother's name) but no father mentioned and mother's maiden name is Jewell so probably not married.

By looking at the Garbutts I may just find something that will help me.

I know John Robert and May Garbutt lived at 11 Little London Road, Heeley at the time of their marriage in 1922 and possibly had 1 son and 1 daughter but that is as far as I know.

Apologies for such a long message.

Any help at all would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Enoch Hampton marriage look up please 1862 Sedgley
« on: Monday 31 October 05 06:46 GMT (UK)  »
Would anyone have access to or be going to wherever the Sedgley Parish Church records are?

If so, would you please look up a marriage for Enoch Hampton (born 1841), father Joseph Hampton.
On freeBMD there is a marriage in December quarter 1862 (vol 6b, page 686).
On same page is an Ann Stokes - I need to find out if this is the person Enoch married (on 1871 census he has a wife called Ann, on other censuses he has a wife called Mary Ann).

I would also like to know Ann Stokes father's name as there is an Ann Stokes (born 1841) and a Mary Ann Stokes (born 1838) both Sedgley.

Thank you very much.
