Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Consistory court cases
« on: Friday 22 January 21 08:21 GMT (UK)  »
I received two Consistory court cases relating to a case in 1608 (7 pages) and another in 1614 (8 pages) both in Derbyshire.  However they seem to be in Latin and/or Legal abbreviation.

I anyone able to transcribe them for me or know anyone who can?  I have already had one quote but it is over budget but I am willing to pay for them to be transcribed

Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Rootsmagic descendant list
« on: Monday 25 November 19 20:14 GMT (UK)  »
I am thinking of changing to Rootsmagic 7 and have downloaded RM Essentials to have a play with.  I just have one query I hope someone can answer.

As my family tree is so large (over 17000 people), I print it using 'Outline descendants chart' or similar printing birth, baptism, marriage, death, burial, occupation and notes (census, newspaper reports, manorial records etc).  It looks like the descendant list would fulfill this task but from RM essentials I can only print birth, marriage and death.  Is there a way of printing all the above in a descendants list?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA advice
« on: Tuesday 17 September 19 17:03 BST (UK)  »
I have an Ancestry DNA match which I will call DR.
After my father, uncle and cousin, he is my highest DNA match 208 cM over 12 segments 2-3 cousin.
My uncle matches 304cM over 14 segments and also 2-3 cousin
I contacted DR and the reply was we have origins in USA, Sweden and Germany.  My family is England and Scotland.
I contacted PH who also shares at match with myself and DR.  I discovered PH great grandmother Annie  and my great great grandfather Thomas were siblings so I narrowed down which 'tree' DR come in.  PH and DR share 133cM over 6 segments and 3-4 cousin.  PH daughter shares 51cM over 4 segments and PH half sister 94cM over 7 segments.
So despite searches by 3 of us we can't fathom how DR fits into our tree his father is German, mothers family Swedish.
As PH has a lower DNA match with DR does this mean it is likely to be from my great grandfather or great great grandfather?  We do know Annie and Thomas's parents separated and the father had a 'housekeeper' living with him in 2 census's but this was on the Isle of Wight!  I did wonder if they had a child.
Any help appreciated.

Canada / Hill/Owen Ontario
« on: Friday 16 November 18 08:37 GMT (UK)  »
Myself and a fellow researcher have been trying to prove/disprove the following but as we both live in England, require help from Canada!

Charles William Hill born 18th Nov 1883 Birmingham married Hannah Owen born 1890 Haslingden Lancashire on 25th Dec 1908 in York Ontario.  Two years later they were witnesses at the marriage of one of Hannah's sisters. No record has been found of them on the 1911 or 1921 census.

We are certain Charles William served in the 122nd Oversea Batallion as the father, birth place (although the year is incorrect) and  addresses of his father are correct (checked with the electoral register), however the demob papers state he is single (not widowed) and give his death as 28th Feb 1966 at Westminster Hospital, London Ontario.  I found a burial at Woodland cemetery

HILL, Charles William   Woodland, London (Section A,AEN,AES,L,VA,VAA,VB,Y)   Middlesex   London   MX-LC-152-1

which maybe be the same Charles William

So we need the age at death/obitory of the 1966 Charles William and to discover if the Woodland burial is the same Charles William.  If it is 'our' Charles William then what became of Hannah 1910-1916?  I can find no death on Ancestry

Any help appreciated!

World War One / Hunts Cyclist/Signaller/Royal Warks Regiment
« on: Thursday 15 February 18 15:28 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking into my husbands grandfathers WW1 service (his papers haven't survived).  He joined the Hunts Cyclists and in Aug 1916 was transferred to the Royal Warks regiment 143rd Brigade, 48th division.  We have a photo of him with his parents and siblings taken in 1915 and he has crossed flags on his left forearm which looks like a crescent with T (territorials) above.  We do know he was also (according to the medal roll) in the Royal Engineers and a signaller.  Do the crossed flags mean signaller?

US Lookup Requests / Winscom family WY/CO/PA
« on: Monday 06 June 16 09:27 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace current members of the WINSCOM family in USA.  After many years research I am writing a book on the interesting family and have been given permission from the Bridwell library, University of Wyoming and Fort Collins museum to use photos in the publication.
Two branches of the family settled in Philadelphia PA and North Park CO (although also ventured into WY).  I would love to contact descendants of WARD CHARLES Winscom d1994 (son last known in WY according to Ancestry) and the large Winscom's in PA.
I live in the UK so an E mail would be preferable. I can supply more information on the families off list
