Lanarkshire / Kirk Session Virtual Volumes
« on: Monday 06 December 21 17:26 GMT (UK)  »
Could someone please explain what was going on here within the kirk session minutes - this is an excerpt;
The Minister having acquainted the session that he was to pay up the 200 merks of poors money in his hand and for which he granted his Bill. The Treasurer to receive the said 200 merks with the eight merks of interest due upon Whitsunday next and to look out for a good hand for the money. At the next session meeting the Treasurer had found a good hand for the 1000 merks given to him and produced a Bond and judged as sufficient security. The 'good hand' was outwith this particular church.

Dumfriesshire / Death of Margaret Bigham
« on: Saturday 02 January 16 13:55 GMT (UK)  »
I've been unsuccessful in finding the death details of Margaret Coupland nee Bigham. In the 1871 and 1881 census she is with her daughter Mary Thomson in Dumfries.  Born about 1804 - I have no birth certificate. I have also searched with Scotlandspeople with variations of her surname. Suggestions on what to try next.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Continuing the family name.
« on: Monday 28 September 15 03:25 BST (UK)  »
I would love to find out if the family name is continuing on. I have two males born in Scotland 1959 and 1969.  The parents and sons emigrated to New Zealand at a guess in the 1970's.  The sons paternal grandparent was I of 12 (my grandfather was 1of them). Their parents died in Papakura, in 2010.  Those distant cousins are the only males from this large family.  Am I able to access any resources to be able to find out marriage, children? Gray865

Ayrshire / Bowman
« on: Saturday 19 September 15 17:22 BST (UK)  »
My Great Grandmother was Jane Bowman McNaught born 1862 to David McNaught and Janet Porteous. Her parents before their marriage were working on neighbouring farms in Coylton, Ayrshire. farmed by Andrew and James Bowman.  My query is, is their a blood relation between Jane and the Bowman family?  Following generations have also used 'Bowman' as a middle name.
