Cornwall / Helston Wesleyan Methodist records for 1862
« on: Tuesday 22 January 13 13:13 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone know where the registers are kept for a marriage that took place in the Helston Wesleyan church/chapel in June 1862? I have a copy from the GRO but it is not that clear; hopefully viewing the original entry, if it still exists of course, would make sense of it.
Also the only current chapel I am aware of in Helston is in Coinagehall Street, would this have been in existence in 1862?

Many thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Emma who?
« on: Thursday 10 January 13 16:05 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone decipher the surname of the informant on the death certificate? I read it as Nealby, but having searched the 1841 census and BMD's, including variants on the name, I cannot establish who she is. The death certificate is for Nicholas Jenkins, correct spelling Jenking, who died of consumption at the King and Queen Dock Rotherhithe September 8 1841. He was 35 and a Shipwright.

Thank you

World War Two / Royal Engineers -Transport Driver
« on: Thursday 13 September 12 10:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Can anyone help? My Dad was in the RE (WW2), I have his service number and he was listed as a Sapper RE, Transport Driver. That's all the info. I have. Some photo's appear to have his badges etc: blanked out and the  remaining photo's are not clear enough for me to gain any further details, ie. company, division etc:

Although I will send for his army service record I believe there is quite a backlog of applications and I wondered if meanwhile there was another source(s) that would be of help.

Thank you

The Common Room / Book Title and Author....can anyone help?
« on: Wednesday 29 February 12 22:15 GMT (UK)  »
About two or three years ago I spotted a newly published book about Mesopotamia in WW1. It was a hardback and priced at around £25-£30. I know the title contained the word Kut; however, I cannot recall the author's name.

Can anyone help? I would be most grateful!

Norfolk / Holroyd's 1861 census
« on: Thursday 10 November 11 20:57 GMT (UK)  »
Are there some" missing" pages from the Norfolk/Suffolk census of 1861? I have lost a family and believe that they were more than likely residing in either of those areas.

The details are:
John Holroyd c1825 Yorkshire  Engine Driver
Jane             c1821 Lancashire Wife
Their Children
Sarah           c1847 Sheffield
Randolph      c1849 Staffordshire
Herbert        c1851 Sheffield
Eleanor        c1854 Norfolk
John            c1856 Suffolk
Anne           c1858 Suffollk

If anyone can help locate them in the 1861 census I would be most grateful.
I have them for 1851(Cheshire) and 1871(Norfolk); I have tried name variants and tried searching for them individually. But no luck!

Orkney / John Marks...Orkney to Cornwall
« on: Wednesday 26 October 11 10:10 BST (UK)  »
I have recently discovered that an ancestor of mine, John Marks, was according to the English 1841/1851 censuses  born in Newcastle Scotland. He married twice (to Cornish women) and was a copper miner and later a sexton. He was born around 1802. I would like to find out more information on my (unexpected) Scottish relative, does anyone have any advice as to my next step. I have had a brief look at the Scottish censuses of 1841/1851 but the name Marks does not feature, apart from a Daniel Marks who appears to be connected with the prison; and he was born in Ireland!
