New Zealand Completed Requests / Look up Please - orphanage records

Searching for information on my husband's grandfather. Henry Joseph Fitzpatrick

I have that he was born about 1891 in Ngaruawahia, NZ and he died 4/11/1953.

I have from his marriage cert that his mother's name was Elizabeth Fitzpatrick but no father's name listed.

There is mention in the family records that he was in St. Joseph's Orphanage on the North Shore, Auckland.  I haven't been able to find a birth record for him.  First record I can find is his marriage to Meta Mauvina May Elizabeth Ferry in 1920  Apparently he had also had a brother named John George Fitzpatrick born 1890 and a sister named Rose. ( I haven't been able to find them either)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Paula

The Common Room / Questions for Relative
« on: Tuesday 06 July 04 20:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,
I have the rare opportunity of having my grandfather come and visit for 3 weeks starting on Friday.  It is his family that I've been doing the most research on.  He is 86 years old and I've compiled a list of questions to ask him but I'd like to make sure that I've covered all basis.

Could as many of you as possible please let me know the following?

If you had the opportunity to ask an elderly relative  questions about their family history what would they be?

I'd like to have lots of questions to ask him.

Thanks for all your help,

Paula

Suffolk / Father's Birth Name
« on: Wednesday 23 June 04 20:48 BST (UK)  »
I am in a bit of a dilema.
I'm trying to find my father's birth name.  He was adopted when he was a baby.
I've been told that he was born in Suffolk, but do not know a town.  I have written to the Family Record Centre in London and they say that my father is the only one that can get his birth name released.  That would be a bit difficult as he passed away last year.
I have had a look at 1837online but it got way too expensive looking up all the births in 1941 to see if who were born in Suffolk in the quarter he was born.  Sort of like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I have been able to trace his adopted family back to the 1700's and would love to be able to the same for his birth family.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Paula

What a great website.  Shows that Frogg is the same as Croup.  I wonder if thats where the saying,"I've got a frog in my throat" comes from.
