New Zealand Completed Requests / Isaac Boon Bennett - Death New Zealand COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 20 March 13 15:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Can anyone help please with information on the following.

Isaac Boon Bennett
Bap: 26 March 1876 Appledore, Devon, England.
Occupation: Mariner

The only record we have is that he is absent at his brothers funeral at Appledore in January 1936 and living in New Zealand.

We also have no record of any marriage in England if indeed he did marry.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi
This Forum is now completed.

Barque ‘Planter’ - (Convict ship) was built at Newcastle in 1835 and not Lynn.

Hi
Does anyone please have knowledge of the ‘Planter’ of Newcastle or point me the right direction of where I could get information on her and possibly when registered or built at Newcastle?

My 4th greater grandfather William Bennett age 26 is recorded on 22 October 1836 as a mariner belonging to the ship: ‘PLANTER’ of Newcastle. (BT 120 / 1).

I have searched on line for details of this ship and found the following, but could not find anything on the ‘TNA’ catalogue (only 4 named and neither fits) and the same problem on the ‘Clip’ website.

On the internet I could only find the following three vessels named ‘Planter’ which would fit in around 1836.  Interesting stories etc. about the convicts on board, but very little about the ships.

The 3 that I did  find :

Barque ‘Planter’ - built at Lynn in 1835 and collided with a sailing vessel named Goddess, off the Algiers in December 1847. She was damaged beyond repair. The 1848 Lloyd's register recorded her as lost. (The above convict ship ‘Planter’. In 1838 sailed from Portland to Sydney).

Schooner ‘Planter’ built at, Anstruther, Scotland in 1825. Leith to Sydney voyage.

Convict ship ‘Planter’ in 1832 sailed from Portsmouth to Sydney. (No other info found).

It also looks like there were 2 convict ships named ‘Planter’ around the same time, due to the building date of the one in 1835 and the other one which had sailed in 1832?

Any help please

=m= 1903 Barnstaple district to:
Elizabeth Ann Jones b: 1882 Berrynarbor, Devon – d: 1965 Ilfracombe

Dora, Iris, Reginald, Horace, Leonard & Vera.

First child was Dora, my Grandmother 1904 -1967 and Vera 1918 -2002 being the last child to be born.
I cannot find Frances Boyen’s death. The only one I can find is for 1912.Which cannot be him due to, Leonard and Vera being born after 1912.

He served in the Army during WW1 and survived.

Any information on his death or even his occupation would be of great help to me.

Family History Beginners Board / 1808 UK Banns of Marriage advice please
« on: Saturday 28 July 12 12:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Not tried Banns of Marriage for research before.

Is it possible to locate a Banns of Marriage for a wedding in Devon on 21 March 1808 and if so, would this give the home Parish of the Groom who was not from the same Parish as Marriage.

If they might exist, where should I start to locate it?

It is for the marriage of John Bennett (resident) and Ann Muxworthy (Northam, Devon).

Any advice please.

Kind regards

Dear all researchers

Just to say a big thank you to Seaweed for his guidance into helping with my research topic, from last year, which is now complete.

Many twists and turns but resolved.

Have sent you a PM Seaweed - your advice and direction was ACE.

Without the help such as people like this, we would not have a site that is truly MAGNIFICENT.

Hi
This is a some what poor photo of who could be my grand father and G Great Grandfather.

The picture is taken of the family ship in 1925.

On looking, I saw what appears to be two figures on the front of the coal ship, she was a (sailing Ketch) called 'Cicelia'.

I have no picture of my G Grandfather.

Can any one of the members produce magic and bring some sort of picture up of the two figures at the front PLEASE.

Years later after this picture was taken, my Grandfather went onto receive the DSM from the King - WW2  in the RNR.

His brother Frank, went twice to Dunkirk and rescued our troops to bring them back to England on his own coal ship 'Lily'. During his second successful rescue attempt, he lost his left leg and his sight.

Kind regards
