Glamorganshire / Llansamlet baptism
« on: Tuesday 02 August 16 22:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have found out that my grandfather, David Thomas Davies, was baptised in the parish of Llansamlet in 1912.  I was wondering  how I can find out at which church he was baptised; there are several in the Llansamlet parish.  Records show he was baptised by the curate WG Jenkins.
Many thanks,
Nicola

Glamorganshire / Davies family Bonymaen Swansea
« on: Saturday 29 August 09 21:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Being a bit hopeful here, but really having difficultly with the ever so common Davies surname!  Is there anyone on here who happens to be searching for Davies' from the Bonymaen/Pentrechwyth area of Swansea?  Particularly linked to James Edward Davies (born 1857) and his wife Elizabeth (Rees) born 1862 both in Llansamlet.

I have a list of their children but only information on their eldest Thomas who was my g.g.grandfather.  Can't see how I am going to find out about his brothers and sisters with there being so many Davies in Swansea to search though!

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Glamorganshire / 1911 census - Leswisse family
« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 20:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have encountered a problem looking for my Leswisse ancesters from Swansea in the 1911 census.  There were quite a few of them, but can only find one of the sons listed.  My g. grandmother, Hannah Leswisse and her sisters and other brothers seem to have disappeared.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Nicola

Hi All

I am wondering if anyone can help me identify where exactly in Gloucestershire my g.g. grandfather got married.  I have his marriage certificate from 1866 and it states the marriage took place at

St James' Church
in the district (parish written underneath) of 'St James'  and what looks like  ' near the lily bush' ??!!

Hope someone can help!

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / Swindon - Newport Street Coffee Palace
« on: Wednesday 08 March 06 15:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Hope someone can help!  I have just found my g.g. grandfather, Albert Milner and two of his daughters on the 1891 census for Swindon.  Totally confused as to why he is there as his wife and the rest of the children are at their home address in Stroud.  However, what I am wondering is if anyone can help explain their address.

It is  Newport Street Coffee Palace.  Albert is down as a Farmer, coffee palace keeper and one of his daughters as lodge assistant.

Does anyone know what a coffee palace was and/or what a coffee palace keeper would have done?

This is a new one on me, so any help will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Gloucestershire / Milliner - Gardner family - marriage help needed!
« on: Friday 03 March 06 10:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Wondering if anyone can help me  . . please . . . am really stuck for ideas!!

I have been looking for ages for the marriage of

Albert Issac Milliner to Annie Gardner.  ( I believe that Gardner is her first married name and that she was born Wright).

Based on children from her first marriage and the fact that they are married in the 1871 census , I am guessing they should have married between 1864 - 1871.  In 1871 they were living in Littleworth were his family lived.  Interestingly, they have a daughter aged 4 (in 1871) born in Avening  - not sure but assume she is Albert's daughter.

I have tried Free BMD and 1837online, but no success!

Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The Common Room / Cause of death question
« on: Wednesday 17 August 05 15:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Just wondering, I have a death certificate from 1938 which states cause of death as ' . . . poisoning - did kill himself while of unsound mind'.

Just wondering if anyone knows if all suicides at this time where deemed to be by someone of 'unsound mind' or if this person really was . . .well, unsound!

Thanks for any help

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Smolensky/Smoley death
« on: Tuesday 09 August 05 11:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am wondering if anyone can help. I have been trying to locate a reference to the death of my husbands grandfather.  His name was Samuel David Smolensky (known as David) which was at some point changed to Smoley.  (so his death may be recorded under either name) .  So far I have not been able to find any reference to him.

There are two stories to what happened.

1. He died in London during WW2
2.  That he died (or was buried at Golders Green) on 30.12.1938

two conflicting stories and no real evidence to back either!

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Hi all

I recently posted asking for help with researching a Mr Niblett who became Mayor of Swindon.  I now know his name was

Harry Edwin Newton Niblett and he was Mayor in 1937 - 38.

Ju from the Wiltshire site found the following entry in the 1881 census and now I am hoping that someone can find him in the 1881 and 1891 for me.

Details are below: -

Hi Nicola!

I'm not sure if this will help much, but I think I may have found Harry on the
1881 Census.....

Hi Nicola!

I'm not sure if this will help much, but I think I may have found Harry on the
1881 Census.....

Dwelling:             No 3 Cambridge St

PRO Ref:             RG11
Piece/Folio:         2537/37
Page No:             21

Edwin Niblett         Head             M     Male        37     Gloucester      Architect
Mary E. Niblett       Wife             M     Female     38     Coleford, Glos
Harry E. Niblett      Son                      Male        9      Gloucester      Scholar
Charles L. Niblett    Son                     Male         8      Gloucester      Scholar
Dora Niblett           Dau                     Female      6      Gloucester      Scholar
Edith Niblett          Dau                     Female      4      Gloucester      Scholar
Howard Niblett       Son                     Male         2      Gloucester
Marie Niblett          Dau                     Female     2m    Gloucester
Katherine Martin    Sister-in-Law   U     Female     28    Hereford         Governess (TR)

FreeBMD shows that the birth of Harry Edwin R Niblett was registered in the
district of Gloucester in the Qtr to Dec 1871.

By 1881, he would of course be 19/20 years old, possibly not still living with parents.  What I am really trying to find out is when he got married and to whom.  Persumably a Miss Milliner, probably of Hawthorn house Littleworth.

Any help woth this would be appreciated

Thanks

Nicola
