Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Ancestral Quest - audio file stopped working, help please?

Hi All,

A few days ago I realised that I could attach audio files to the slideshow for individuals. So, I tried it out and attached a music clip to each of four individuals to play in the background of their slideshows. It worked beautifully and I was chuffed to bits with it - until this morning.

For some reason I cannot work out, a couple of the audio files have stopped working and I get an error message saying "MCI Error. Cannot find the specified file. Make sure the path and file name are correct." Also another message when the audio file does not play saying "No device".

I have checked the pathways for the files and there does not seem to be anything wrong with them. I can go to the file location on my PC and open and play the files - but, as soon as I try to play them from the slideshow, I get the messages described.

One of my audio files attached to an individual is absolutely fine and playing as expected on a slideshow but some of them just won't connect for some reason.

Has anyone else had this problem before? Or, does anyone know what might be causing this?

I have sent a message to Ancestral Quest, but am also posting here in hopes that the tech minded forum members may know what the problem is. All were working fine yesterday.

The Common Room / Query re My-History Genealogy Supplies

Hi All,

Has anyone else had any security issues when dealing with My-History genealogy suppliers at all? I recently bought some items which arrived all present and correct, but the invoice which came with it belonged to someone from another country and included her full name, address and phone contacts. I therefore assumed that mine had been sent to someone else and although nothing can now be done about that, I have contacted the company twice to tell them of the breach and also included it in a review.

I have heard nothing from the company at all and my review does not show in their customer feedback, even though their latest is dated after I sent my own in.

I am happy with the products, but disappointed that not only have my personal details been sent who knows where, but the company have not acknowledged the issue.

Has anyone else had any privacy breaches from the company?

Hi All,

Please could someone try and sharpen or clarify my relative Millie? The photo was sent from a phone and although I can easily see what Millie looked like, it is poor quality and the original has been lost.

Would anyone be able to look up a death notice from 2005 in The Press for me by any chance?

It is for a Joyce Appleby, whose death notice was printed on 27 and 28 April 2005. I am wanting to check whether she is a match for someone I am hunting for by that name.

Dublin / Query re records of parishioners

I realise this is a real long shot, but does anyone know whether the parish churches in Dublin would have kept records of their parishioners? Specifically, names, addresses, occupations etc?

It's probably unlikely but I'm hoping someone will know.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Query re birth records post 1916

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there is a way of searching birth records after 1916 (ie.outside of the 100 year range)? Specifically, if I want to look for children born to parents between 1916 and 1926-ish, is there any way of doing so? Ancestry birth index was no help.
