England / Parentage and baptism records
« on: Monday 12 October 20 11:09 BST (UK)  »
Opinions please - sorry for the long post. Trying to establish if my "thinking" is likely or wishful thinking re the parents of my 3x Great Grandmothers.
My 3x Great Grandparents were Harriet Brailsford (sometimes Brelsford) and Charles Hunter married 5th March 1833 in Washingborough, Lincolnshire, England.  On the parish marriage record Harriets parish listed as St Peter at Arches (nearby Lincoln town centre) but all the later census records give her birthplace as Washingborough c1815 so probably working in Lincoln as Washingborough only a couple of miles away.  I've traced the line forward to me and verified everything and the Hunter line going back seems ok so far - work in progress. My next task was to establish Harriets parents but I couldn't find a baptism in any of the normal sources.  I have been right through the Washingborough parish baptism records on Find My Past  from 1793 - 1836 with no sign of Harriet. However only 1 Brailsford / Brelsford family mentioned in those records with 4  Brailsford baptisms the parents all given as  Edward and Elizabeth - children were  Edward junior  1819, George 1820, Elizabeth 1825 and Charles 1828 (Edward senior died 1827 but possible Elizabeth was pregnant when he died. . .  The only marriage I can see between an Edward Brailsford and an Elizabeth is one in Dec 1812 in North Clifton  and Elizabeths maiden name is Tindal (poss Tindale) and on census records in Washingborough after Edwards death in 1827 she is listed as being born in South Clifton - there was no church in South Clifton so the North Clifton marriage seems correct.   There's a burial for an Elizabeth Brailsford in Washingborough in Aug 1868 age 77 and a burial in Lincoln in 1827 of husband Edward,  died in hospital according to the burial register. 2 of Edward senior  and Elizabeths children -  Edward junior and George, both  named a daughter Harriet and my Harriet named a daughter Elizabeth.  . Although there's no absolute proof, in your opinion how does my theory stand up to scrutiny that as there only seems to be one Brailsford / Brelsford family in Washingborough Harriet was the eldest child of Edward and Elizabeth and that she just wasn't baptised? Otherwise I'm not sure which direction to go in to establish Harriets parents.  Should I follow my gut feeling? Thanks all

Family History Beginners Board / Berkshire marriage records
« on: Sunday 14 May 17 20:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi. Currently tracing a LOUCH line and found this marriage.

John Louch m Mary Johnson 5 Mar 1810 Besselsleigh, Berkshire

Would  anyone please have access to the original image to see if there's any addl info please. The first child (as far as I can see) was born 1814  in Bracebridge Lincolnshire as were the other children last one in 1831 and the couple are found in that area (Bracebridge & Lincoln) until their deaths. They're living together on the 1841 census in Lincoln they both state they were born Outside the county. Later census records show them living seperately with one or other of their children.  Found some interesting items on BNA about their relationship which seems to have been "eventful" lol. John says he was born in Burnham and Mary in Horton both either Buckinghamshire or Berkshire (both places seem to have changed counties here and there as they're rght on a border. IF anyone should come across their baptism records as well I'd be VERY grateful

There should be William (Father ) Elizabeth Ann (Mother) and children inc John, George, Betsy, Mary Ann, Joseph, Martha H, Eliza, Harriet, Naomi and Fanny. The Common Room / Found documents

Hi This was posted today on the Lincolnshire Family History Facebook page.
"This message was posted today on the Lincolnshire Rootsweb list. If these names mean anything to anyone please leave a comment and we will pass it on to the poster.

"Yesterday, whilst rummaging in The Banana Warehouse, York (a second-hand emporium that gets a lot of its stock from house clearances) I found an A4 ring binder containing around 20 Birth Marriage & Death Certificates. Clearly, the previous (and presumably late) owner had done some family research in the 1990s, but the information had not been handed on to the next generation.

It seemed a pity to let it go to waste, so the shop owner kindly gave the binder to me when I said I'd try to reunite it with someone who would value it. There doesn't appear to be a Yorkshire connection, even though the information ended up in York.

The Certificates include the names: BARKER, BRIGGS, COLYER, DAVIES, DUDLEY, FIELD, HARRISON, HAUGHTON, HIRST, JANE, JOHNSON, LAMBERT, MILLS, SANDERS, SATCHELL, STARKEY, STEVENS, WALTER and were issued at Barnes, Battersea, Camberwell, Cheveley, Eyke (Suffolk), Islington, Lambeth, Leyton, Christ Church London, St Pancras, St Mary
Newington, Ringwood, Southwark, Spalding, Tunbridge Wells, Walthamstow, Waterloo, Whaplode Drove. The folder also contained a photocopy of the Hampshire Victoria County History for Harbridge and Ringwood."

Can anyone help me identify the unform and any information regarding him I was a little surprised at the photo as the family were mostly agricultural labourers.
